Kyle nods and goes to do as he's told. This won't be to bad.

Carrie "watches" from a safe distance. She was mad enough that she could spit, but it didn't matter, she had played her hand already.  No point in crying about it.  She pays as close attention as possible to all parties.

Clearly running multiple missions at the same time is a terrible idea.  The epic battle to see which team can cock it up worse has escalated again.

And Larry kinda gets blueballed in all this; just left with a raging bone spear and no where to put it.

Bad air, stairs, heavy loads, crushing boredom, all these you find to be relatively minor problems, as they seem to be either largely physical in nature or at least easily overcome with a little willpower, nothing at all compared to a general directionlessness, an existential crisis, annoying nightmares straight out of goddamn nowhere, persistent memory loss and fucking Todd.

So, to put it simply, you just put everything you have into your current, somewhat mindless task and try not to think at all, which, miraculously, you seem to perfectly succeed at, at least in relation to what you're doing. As a consequence, time practically flies as you, Jones, the librarian you talked to previously (whose name is apparently Joyce) and Jones' seemingly older brother Bob (he looks exactly like you'd imagine the average Bob would look, too, which in turn leads you to notice that Jones looks a little like a Bob as well, the sudden awareness of which is mildly surprising).

Sure enough, in about four hours, which is, as far as you can tell, considerably sooner than expected, the bulk of the carrying, sorting and reorganization is done, due in large part to your robotic, tireless adherence to the task and also your shrugging, apathetically grimacing refusal to take any smoke breaks, which both the ladies appear to enjoy for about half an hour to every one and a half hours of work. Bob, though, continues working with you throughout this time, trying his best to keep up with your productivity.

In any case, you're done now, and when Joyce and Jones get back from their break, they are pleasantly surprised to say the least.

"Hey, look, we're done," Jones observes as they enter the repository that you spent the last hour in organizing books ranging from Journey to the Center of the Earth to thirty mint condition copies of Rasputin: the First Modern Parahuman? "Didn't think that'd ever happen, I'll be honest with you."

You cough to yourself, your throat tickling with the dust you've been breathing.

"No kidding," says Joyce, looking genuinely happy. "And it's all thanks to Bob and..." she looks at you, furrowing her brow, "... and I forgot to ask you what your name was, but you're a treasure, you are. What is your name?"

Carrie "watches" from a safe distance. She was mad enough that she could spit, but it didn't matter, she had played her hand already.  No point in crying about it.  She pays as close attention as possible to all parties.

Things are heating up, you think. Exploding dude seems pissed at this cowboy guy for some reason, and appears to be approaching him if your freeze-frame views are any indication.

Meanwhile, Ilo and One Eighty appear to be retreating to a safer distance, ducking down, probably to avoid another blast. One Eighty has an excited look in her eyes, you think. She's probably saying something to Ilo as well every so often. Ilo continues to not give a single solitary crap about things as far as what you can tell from his face.

The crowd seems in danger of serious injury if the guy explodes again. Some people in it are already injured, you note, but they don't seem to care all that much.

A girl that the guy blasted away, one you're aware was standing near the cowboy guy when you did the last check, seems to have a broken arm, judging from her reaction. Maybe some internal bleeding too, you don't know.

Still glaring at the man steven also begins to scowl angrily and begins walking towards him again.

He doesn't scowl back. It's just that same, squinting glare and drawn mouth. You start walking toward him, and he doesn't move an inch as you draw closer and closer.

Kyle smiles politely at her.
"I'm Kyle, miss Joyce. Anyways, it's no trouble at all. I've been having a rough couple of days and mindless labor is a welcome change to that really."
I can't tell if It's the looks of Bob I like or Jones. I mean, I'm fairly certain I'm not gay... This is the problem with liking tomboys. It's really confusing to figure out if I like girls or boys... Same stands for punks as well. But at least they're a little more obvious in their gender... That was an odd tangent me. Stop doing that. This is why you're called psycho. At least I'm not as bad as my father was. Motherfucker stabbed a dude in elementary. Stuck it to a table. THAT was badass and scary.

Continuing his advance Steven stops barely three feet in front if the cowboy and raises his arm until his palm is directly in front of the mans face.

"Oh, such a nice young man," Joyce says, and it's almost as if she ages ten years before your very eyes from that remark alone. "Would you care for some wine, Kyle? I think I've got a bottle lying around, and I do believe we've all earned it, right, Jones?"

"Totally," Jones agrees.

"Would you two boozehounds have some water, maybe? I'm parched," Bob notes.

"Oh, there's a cooler up on the third floor, right next to Jones' room," Joyce replies, pointing at the door.

"Thanks, though I certainly could have used that knowledge an hour ago," Bob says a little bit gruffly and then heads out the door.

"So, how about a drink for your efforts, Kyle?" Joyce turns back to you.

Kyle bites his bottom lip as he thinks.
Hm... I still need to find a place to stay the night... but refusing would be rude... Hm.
Kyle nods.
"Just one glass. I have to find a place to stay the night later and walking down the streets drunk can't end well."

Selina looks at Rita with a very thoughtful expression, considering her words slowly as she tried to get her head around what she had been told... and how much that sounded like a description of what had just occurred to her, and in finding the group... though her powers would likely cause problems, especially if she used it unconsciously at every fright she was given... or if she saw that insane kidnapper's friend again...

Alex would frown in displeasure as he went to Mr. Block's house.

Your frown carries you through the evening, and you are soon in front of the home of Mr. Black. It's a suburban affair, reasonably quaint, with a very faux classical aesthetic. The lawn's gotten out of hand.

Now, how are you going to approach this, you wonder? Knock on the door and improvise from there? Or just wait until he's sight and use your power?

Continuing his advance Steven stops barely three feet in front if the cowboy and raises his arm until his palm is directly in front of the mans face.

He is unmoved, and you feel his glare even through your hand. You feel a little inadequate, as if by obstructing his gaze with your palm you have conceded some measure of defeat.

Kyle bites his bottom lip as he thinks.
Hm... I still need to find a place to stay the night... but refusing would be rude... Hm.
Kyle nods.
"Just one glass. I have to find a place to stay the night later and walking down the streets drunk can't end well."

"Oh? You don't have a place to stay? Are you new in town?" asks Joyce as she leads you and Jones out of the room toward what looks like an employees' lounge, where she retrieves a bottle of not particularly expensive wine from a cupboard along with three drinking glasses, filling up each. As she sips hers after giving one to Jones and you, she seems to have an idea. "Oh! Maybe you can stay in the library? I let Jones stay here already, and I've spent the night here a couple times too. Jones ought to have a couple blankets she doesn't use, and we could maybe make you a bed out of some milk crates in Jones' personal cave up in the attic."

"No offense, but maybe let's not put him right where I'm sleeping, Joyce," Jones says, finishing her glass of wine in a few gulps. "Storage room's just as good, right?"

"Well, it would be warmer, certainly," Joyce admits. "I worry about you wanting to live up there through the winter, Jones. Can't be good for you with all those drafts."

"I plan on fixing those up soon, actually," Jones says. "Get some good thermal isolation up there. Gonna be a bit of work, though, if I understand it right."

"Don't go collapsing the roof on yourself, though," Joyce laughs. "Not sure how I'd explain that later."

Rita says nothing as well, just looking at you for a moment with a bit of a blank look.

"But it's important that it's not just that they're different that she latches on to them," she says thoughtfully. "There's got to be some kind of compatibility at work, you know?"

Another pause.

"It occurs to me that I haven't really told you anything about myself, have I?" Rita says, chuckling.

Carrie continues to watch.

You like to watch. Especially how an exploding man is squaring off in a battle of wills (and explosions, apparently) against some weird cowboy dude. It seems to be about to come to a head there, which pleases you to a degree. One Eighty and Ilo appear to be watching very intently as this is happening.

Kyle thinks for a few moments.
"Mighty kind of you to offer Joyce... Well, I'd be happy to take you up on the offer if it's not to much trouble."
Kyle sips from his glass.

Kyle sips from his glass.

"No trouble at all," she says. "With the work you did, letting you stay the night is the least we could do."

"Without you, we could have gone up to three more hours before breaking out the wine," Jones adds.

"Yes, imagine that. But the question stands, Kyle. How's a young man like you end up in Edwardstown without a place to stay? This isn't exactly New York, you know. Heck, it's not even in Brockton Bay's league. Hitchhiking cross country or something, I take it? Or, god forbid, come here from an even smaller place?"

Kyle sighs and rubs his temple with his free hand.
"Well, not that. I've had a horrible couple of days. Okay, so, I got out of the hospital after getting shot right? Well, I don't know what I dd but I just can not remember where I live. No one does in fact. So, I end up staying the night in a hotel. Well, I picked the wrong night to stay because various eldritch horrors keep me up all night culminating in me walking out to the parking lot and laying down until the guy who was apparently responsible for them find me and offers to give me a ride to my buddy's place to see if he knew where I lived. He didn't know so I walk down to an Applebee's and spend the last bits of my money on dinner before walking over here. But, you know, not all bad. I mean, I could have been shot for the third time in the past month."
Kyle shrugs and sips on his wine. He stop and thinks for a moment.
"Oh, and I think I may have powers but I don't know if that's true or not."
