Carrie sits in silence as they drive back home, largely ignoring any attempts made by her father to communicate.  There was a lot she needed to do, but splinted in casts like she was she had plenty of time before she could start.  There was a lot she needed to remember and so much more to learn.  Once home, she picks up her school books and, using her power, begins to memorize them.

Maintaining his charade of having contracted every disease known to man steven slowly shuffles along the opposite side of the road to the cruiser with the intention of stopping perpendicular to it.

If the police move to intercept him he shuffles away a little faster and then breaks into a dead run after turning the nearest corner.

If the police do not pay him a second thought he fires a braced shockwave into the rear of the vehicle trying his best to flip the vehicle into the store and incapacitating without killing its occupant or their partner but also preventing said partner from being in a position to notice him and retaliate should they escape injury.

Selina nods and sits there for a bit, trying to keep herself from panicking over what she saw in the knife reflection again.

She leans back as she recognizes you, horrified at the realization.

"Uh... sorry..." she says, throwing a glance at the nearby building, a run-down, archetypical projects building, the sort of place where the law dares not step, by and large, unless accompanied by an army of officers and solid evidence of at least ten kilos of crack hidden inside. "I... you've grown."

She blinks a few times. Definitely pretty wired, you'd say. And with a bit of a meth mouth to go with it, no less.

"You've grown a lot, baby."

She steps toward you indecisively, looks at the building. She begins to raise her arms in a hug, but then draws back, and rubs her coarse hands along her shoulders. Underdressed for the night, probably a little cold. Got the eyes of a gecko, or is that just the light/lack thereof? Maybe you need to sleep more.

"I'm gonna go," she says at last, looking over her shoulder. There's a terribly earnest look about her. "I really need to be going."

And with that, she turns around and starts to walk away rapidly.

Spoiler: Note (click to show/hide)
I watched her leave, shoulders slumped. I figured I should probably see where she was going in such a hurry, at least to make sure she was okay...and she was going into a section I hadn't checked yet, anyway. It was a stupid hope, but maybe my brother's would be there anyway. All I really had left was stupid hope, though. And rage. But rage only lasts you so long.

Memorizing your school books is a fairly easy task - while you can only take your time with two pages at a time, your processing ability, given enough time, is near-infinite.

That is, until you realize how incredibly boring and useless your school books really are. You don't even have any of the cool classes yet, and the most advanced things you have to learn are basic algebra. Well, that and basic observations about weather and similar such crap. Memorizing most of it, you feel, would be a wasted effort. And that's not just because you're bored beyond any reasonable human measure by the time you're finished with your English textbook. Good gods, these things were not meant to be read in one sitting.

You shuffle clandestinely to a more advantageous position - the police look your way at first, but immediately turn away, deeming you of no importance whatsoever and allowing you to freely assume a firing stance unmolested. And with that, you strike, firing a shockwave forward and backward.

It hits, you are pleased to note. Sadly, though, it appears you focused it a little too weakly, given the way it leaves a large dent in the back of the car, pushing it toward the curb, but failing to flip it over in any way. Needless to say, the police are immediately alerted by your maneuver, and seem to put two and two together admirably, given the lateness of the hour.

Naturally, they begin fleeing immediately, one officer quickly making a break for the car, which starts accelerating immediately. It seems that this is not a coordinated escape attempt.

Kyle tries to regain concentration.

It's easy to regain your concentration. Actually, it's a bit difficult to even think of looking beyond that wall in the first place, not least of which because you can't see past it, so stopping that is pretty easy. You resolve not to think about it and instead focus on more important matters, like your current bondage situation. You doubt you could have tied yourself up in this way, but you can't for the life of you think of anyone who'd tie you up in your own home.

Selina nods and sits there for a bit, trying to keep herself from panicking over what she saw in the knife reflection again.

That was indeed one shiny knife, you would say. Disturbingly so. And also the whole reflection winking thing. That's also a bit weird.

In any case, Lynn's back after a few moments, with a bit of what looks like mail in her hands. Mostly junk mail, seems like. Plus a couple magazines. None of it addressed to any occupants of this house you happen to know of - instead, the intended recipient is written down as Tamara Yu.

"Let's see if there's anything good here," Lynn says, starting to rifle through the various letters, examining the first few with obvious distaste before putting them into what she immediately dubs the bill pile.

As soon as she notices you even going vaguely in her direction, which she does fairly easily, given how she looks over her shoulder every other moment, she starts running down the street, then sprinting as you pick up speed, disappearing into the night within a minute. There goes your miniscule amount of hope, you guess. You sigh, just about to give up on this whole thing, when you hear something else. A voice, screaming in the distance, right from where you came from.

"Meche! Come back, you fucking bitch!"

A man, though sounding high-pitched and a little hoarse. A little curious, and fully aware of needing to go that way anyway, you walk back, and notice that there is indeed a guy outside that building your aunt was looking at previously. He looks wild. And a bit dangerous. He's also holding a knife, you think. To top it all off, he's even wearing a wifebeater, on the middle of which you notice a set of dark stains. It's hard to see him clearly under this lighting.

Selina gets a whole lot less okay with the group staying in this house seeing Lynn just rifling through their mail.

"D-do you usually do that...?" Selina is slightly worried.

Carrie, done with her books, decides to wait until the next school day.  She would be going and there would be more to learn there, probably some more interesting information as well.  She also hopes to set up an aptitude test to get her away from middle school drama as fast as possible.  If she can learn this fast, then there is no point in sitting through classes.

Watching the police cruiser flee Steven is struck with a mixture of disgust at its occupant's cowardice and irritation that his desired gear is still locked in the boot of the car.

Quickly turning his attention back to the officer left behind steven carefully lines up and fires another braced shockwave at them before they can turn their gun on him. this time the shockwave is a bit wider for the sake of accuracy, but still powerful enough to throw the officer backwards several feet and knock them unconscious.

Should the police officer react faster then expected and begin pointing their gun at him steven panics and quickly fires a powerful  braced shockwave at the officer capable of turning them into mush.

Selina gets a whole lot less okay with the group staying in this house seeing Lynn just rifling through their mail.

"D-do you usually do that...?" Selina is slightly worried.

"I'd say that there's a 75% chance that whoever all this is addressed to is dead. Their mail is the least of their problems," Lynn says, concentrating on rifling through the various letters. One in particular looks rather striking to you, a yellow envelope that looks to hold a personal letter of some kind. There's also some sort of gardening magazine in the pile you can observe.

Bad news are, you were hilariously wrong about the informative value of going to school. Good news are, both your dad and the school staff appear to be very easily bullied into doing what you want (probably due to this newfound intensity you appear to have obtained), and you're fairly sure you could arrange some form of aptitude test to skip ahead a few grades if you want. May need to cram a bit. Probably will need to cram a lot. But you're practically made of time, so that's no problem.

This whole thing does appear very suspicious to the school staff, however.

"... This forgetting thing is getting really fucking annoying."
Kyle struggles a bit before laying down. He tries to remember what could have happened to cause this.

You... don't rightly know. It probably relates to your power. And you think somebody must have tied you up - probably your sister just saw you asleep after coming into your apartment (shouldn't have given her the key for it) and decided to try something funny. Seems like something she would do.

Watching the police cruiser flee Steven is struck with a mixture of disgust at its occupant's cowardice and irritation that his desired gear is still locked in the boot of the car.

As the police cruiser speeds off, you blast the officer left behind into the store, shattering the display in the process. Judging by the groans you can subtly hear through the alarm that accompanies the breaking of the glass, the fellow isn't quite out, but he's certainly terribly hurt in some fashion.

Kyle struggles a bit before shrugging and taking a nap. Naps are fine. And they feel better when encased in something. It'll probably fix itself during that time.
This confirms it. I have the worlds shitiest super super power. Other people get to fly and shoot lasers and hit things really hard. Not me though. Nope. I get to forget things. I am literally Alzheimers lad. With the power to... uh... forget things. Fucking perfect. I could have had something happen to turn my life around, make something of myself, finally be better at something practical than my sister. But the universe says that I have to take a penalty disguised as a blessing. Fuck you universe. I'm going to be completely fucking average and there's not a thing you can do to bring me lower. Cunt. Fucking fight me m8, I'll wrek you swear on me mum...

Selina just nods and goes upstairs to see if she can find something half way decent to change into and get away from the uneasy feeling she had of Lynn rifling through the mail. At the very least, she wanted a room no one was in so she could see if her... slime... stuff... actually did anything to walls or small pieces of clothing. So far, it just seemed to make things a little oily.

Wasting no time Steven quickly runs over to the downed cop and hastily removes his gun and holster as well as his his handcuffs  swatting the officers hands away as necessary and growling to dissuade further attempts at preventing him from taking them.

Once he has his new starting gear steven grabs the officers radio and puts it in front of the officers face allowing him to groan into it for a few seconds so that medical aid is promptly dispacthef and then turns and flees.

Taking off on foot steven works his way through back streets and tries to avoid stores and security cameras whilst looking for somewhere he can safely remove his disguise without being seen or caught on camera.

Let them suspect all that they want.  The non-combat aspect of her powers is subtle enough that they couldn't honestly make a decent claim of anything.  Except maybe getting the ability to read minds or some other such nonsense.
