Alright let's get walking.

You walk to university, getting there in about half an hour, missing your first lecture by about fifteen minutes. This being university, though, nobody really cares, and you sit down as your professor explains the more basic ideas behind the science of crystallography. You're already somewhat familiar with the material, so this isn't a particularly problematic lecture to listen to. You reasonably understand upwards of sixty percent of it at the very least, you think. Though you can't say you share the professor's enthusiasm for the subject matter. You wonder why you're even learning this, but then you remember that there's going to be a test about this, and your momentary concerns are assuaged.

Alex would open his eyes wide, realizing what he was trying to do. He felt angry at himself, not thinking about his mother, but what he wanted. Holding his jaw, he would slowly make an attempt to stand up, stumbling as he lifted to his knees.

You're not as badly injured as you'd think. Your tongue is kind of ruined, and you can't move it much, and you're still bleeding into your mouth a bit, though not as much as a moment ago. You adjust your hands a bit, and manage to staunch some of the blood flow. You're pretty sure you need medical attention of some sort right now, though you have to admit that it's not really so bad that you couldn't see yourself surviving for a while like this. There's something odd about your flesh right now - you're bleeding less than you should be, and the pain, though quite pronounced at the moment of being shot, has now all but subsided. You spit out a bit of your blood as you get to your feet, and consider your next move.

Selina has lost a little bit of herself at this point, and seems to have a slight smirk mixed in with all the rage and exhaustion.

"Theres a special place in hell waiting for you, where child molesters, and those who talk at the theater go."
She gives a small dark chuckle at this.

"What? Speak up. Do you want something or not?" Konicek asks in a cheerful manner. "I've got some minestrone back in the fridge. I could heat it up and bring it over here."

Leaving the dentists office Steven grumbles to himself a bit about the horrendous inefficiency or non-punctuality of the dental system.

After unlocking his car Steven lays back in the drivers seat for a few minutes and gets lost in though.
Deciding that understanding his powers sooner rather than later would be most beneficial to him he then drives out to a secluded location and begins practicing throwing out small controlled shockwaves and bracing his body against the recoil.

You drive out past the city limits, where the suburbs peter out and the backwoods properly begin, leaving your car out by the side of the road while you head deeper into the woods and begin to practice your craft. Planting your feet firmly into the ground, you try to throw out a very small shockwave in a single direction. It results less in a small shockwave, more in a uniform boom all around you, uprooting one old tree right behind you as you try to perform it - a much younger tree right in the intended direction nearly suffers the same fate. You notice that this doesn't seem to have pushed you in a particular direction much - you feel a push away from the direction you intended, granted, but it's easy to deal with.

You progress to trying for a larger shockwave in a particular direction, and it does not take long for you to break several trees and fly back a few meters yourself. You keep walking through the woods, retrying the varying methods of making shockwaves, and it seems like they're roughly the same shockwave each time, although you can direct more of the energy in a certain direction - this results in recoil. Quite a lot of it. You try and you try, but it seems you can't actually adjust the power of the explosion below a certain level, and the lowest you can manage is a pretty violent concussive boom in every direction - even downward, at which point the earth beneath you is compressed, and you plummet down to its level after a few moments.

More reassuringly, you find out that you can do about one explosion a second, though this is a bit tiring.

"What? You have powers?"

She allowed herself a small smile "Yeah, and the other guy..." Her face fell and she snapped her cuffs again after rapidly jumping back into her body, "Where is he?"

"Who?"

"The man who killed mom, where is he?" Her voice became shrill as she pointed at the officers, "You let him go!  You let that monster go! He was parahuman, a brute!  You let him go!?"

You aren't actually cuffed right now - they removed those a while ago, as soon as they moved you into the cell. But you do, in a quick check of the surrounding area, confirm that the other guy doesn't seem to be here anymore, at which point you snap a little.

"Calm down, miss. I understand you might feel concerned in these circumstances, but it is important that you remain calm. This is a complicated matter, and pointing fingers and slinging accusations right now won't help anyone," the officer says, quite unfazed by your accusations, gazing at you sternly.

Jake decided that stewing in a hotel room wouldn't do anything to take his mind off his brother's predicament, and figured he would go for a walk. He headed for the woods on the outskirts of the town, thinking that maybe the seclusion would let him clear his mind. If nothing else, maybe he could just punch a tree or something as a way to vent his frustration.

When he got to the woods, he would turn on his power and slam a fist into the nearest tree as hard as he could. He was trying to see if he would get hurt. If that didn't hurt him, he would look for another tree a short distance away and charge it, seeing if it would stop his momentum and injure him.

Once you're in the woods, ever a popular destination for the newly empowered in need of a test drive of their abilities, you delight in the fresh air and the general quiet for a moment before activating your power, which is much easier than you would have thought. You notice, a little disappointedly, that your nose still appears to be broken. Nevertheless, you slam your fist into a nearby tree as hard as you can, and though you feel the bark as it is crushed beneath your fist, you don't really feel any pain or anything like that. Rather pleased, you then charge a nearby tree, slamming right into it - the tree stops your momentum, not being a cheap door by any means, though once again there's no pain or anything like that. You step back a moment, feeling quite pleased with yourself.

Selina repeats herself several times, slightly louder on each repeat.

"Theres a special place in hell waiting for you, where child molesters, and those who talk at the theater go."

Konicek raises an eyebrow, then shrugs.

"Oh. Well, I guess that's to be expected. So, do you want any soup or not? Maybe some water? You sound a little parched, and you haven't really been eating or drinking much. Have to keep you healthy, don't I?"

She starts laughing somewhat, an all teeth grin plastered on her face as she stares at him. She may have finally unhinged at some point while he was gone.

Stopping her laughing suddenly, she gives him a vicious glaring grin. "Your gonna die. Slowly, and enduring as much pain as possible. Doesn't even have to be me. I give you a week before you slip, and then it'll be mine turn to tickle your insides with blades.~"

She begins the off-setting laugh once again.

She begins the off-setting laugh once again.

"Huh. 'Kay, let's begin."

He takes out the pistol, puts on a set of protective earmuffs, and then shoots you in the gut three times from point blank range, which is, once again, incredibly painful. As you begin to bleed, he walks over to the case with the syringes, filling up one, then injecting you with it. Once more, incredible pain occurs - the torn tissues of your abdomen all seem to twist at the same time as they push out the three bullets, then reorder themselves in the form they should theoretically maintain. It's not quite as strange as when your leg reformed, but definitely up there in terms of weirdness.

"Isn't that cool? It pushes the bullets right out!" Konicek says, sniffling a bit while gesturing with the syringe. "It's... really cool! Don't you think?"

There's something... different about him right now. His breathing seems to become a little more shallow as he looks at you.

She laughs weakly, but mockingly, having laughed in between her cries of pain the entire time.

"Your losing your nerve. You think your wife suspects, maybe even knows your a terrible person. Even if it kills me I can show her how terrible you are. I don't have a place to return to anymore, so what do I have to lose?"

Again the unsettling laugh of a maniac, though a bit quieter.

"Calm down!?! You want me to calm down!?! Thats dumb! You're dumb, I dont...

"Carrie!" her father barked. His voice had a weight that she knew not to test. She stopped. I apologize for my daughter's behavior officer; however, unless there is anything else, I would like to take my daughter home now.  We've both had a terrible day."

"Um... actually Dad, I think there is something else."

"Really? What?"

"Powers, Dad.". Her fathers face made a silent "oh" and he looked at the officer expectantly.

"Well, uh, not sure how to tell you this, dear, but they've been... uh... missing, maybe? Missing's a good word. Yeah."

She inhales deeply.

"See, there's this thing. Yeah. They're missing. Bad, bad men are responsible. Real bad. You get what I'm saying so far?"

You're not sure if this is the way she normally talks or if she's trying to talk down to you.

"But they ain't all bad, see. Yeah. Not all bad at all, not all the time. They say they're gonna give them back, Serra. And that's the truth, I think. They ain't all bad. But they need ten grand, and they need that ten grand badly. Really, really badly. But that's only if the police don't find out. If the police find out, they're gonna show how real bad they can be, you get what I'm saying? I'm real sorry, Serra, baby, but they're real bad. As bad as they get. You're following me so far?"

You're fairly sure she's talking down to you right now, though there is desperation in her voice.
I couldn't speak for a few moments, too filled with inarticulate rage to think clearly, beyond knowing that if I said anything, I would be screaming, and that wouldn't help anything. Instead, I said, very clearly,

"What. Did you. Do."

If she had had any part in this whatsoever...well, she would be gone. I would hunt her down and make she knew she would never have any part in any of this family ever again, or anything anywhere near us. No one hurt my little brothers.

No one.

Jake was pretty pleased that his power seemed to protect him from any damage, although he was a little confused as to why his nose hadn't healed this time. Maybe it only worked on recent injuries? He could probably test that out later, but a stray thought caught his interest for the moment. Could he extend his power to other things? He picked up a branch and decided to find out, trying to extend his power to affect the branch as well before swinging it into a tree as hard as he could.

Timeskip to next time I have free and begin investigating the tools i would need for my dice machine.

You guess that's the half-hour break between lectures - you go over to one of the labs to see what they've got, and the answer seems to be not much. You might have better luck if you knew the maintenance man or something, but right now uni supplies are a bust.

So after you're home, you realize you do have a couple of appropriate tools lying around, old, but mostly unused - you're pretty sure you're going to need a few more necessities, though. Possibly a welding kit of some sort. And maybe some more miniature instruments. If only you knew any blacksmiths or jewelers. Do you know any blacksmiths or jewelers?

She laughs weakly, but mockingly, having laughed in between her cries of pain the entire time.

"Your losing your nerve. You think your wife suspects, maybe even knows your a terrible person. Even if it kills me I can show her how terrible you are. I don't have a place to return to anymore, so what do I have to lose?"

Again the unsettling laugh of a maniac, though a bit quieter.

He stares at you for a good second or two, blinking, raising an eyebrow.

"What? Why would she care? Hell, why would I care?" he wonders at what appears to be, to him, a non-sequitur, then waves his hand at you dismissively. "But I do feel a bit tight in the chest. Hope it's not a heart attack," he says, sitting down on a nearby box. "What if it's a heart attack?" he asks half-rhetorically, turning to you. "I feel pretty awful. Maybe I should go," he says, but looks kind of indecisive as he stares at you.

"We're not going to imprison you on the basis that you have powers, if that's what you're wondering about," the officer explains to you. "Your father may take you home for now, but we may call you up in case some follow-up questioning is needed."

No one.

"Me? Nothing! God's honest truth, nothing! You think I'd do that to a buncha kids? Serra, baby, I didn't do a thing. These men, they called me. Said I needed to pay them, or they'd show me how bad they were. I asked them how, they said they had your mother's kids. And that I had to get ten grand to them, or that's it."

She suddenly becomes quite agitated. Indignant, too, at first, but at the end the desperation really begins to shine through. Her voice is rather shaky, and she seems to be breathing quite rapidly.

"I've got no money, and I know they'll do real bad things if I don't get the money to them. And I can't go to the cops, either. They know the cops. They'll know if they get wind of this. I don't know what to do, baby."

You pick up a dry branch and attempt to somehow affect it, but you're not really feeling it, you think. You swing it into a nearby tree, and the branch, predictably, breaks in half.

"Doesn't matter where you go, where you hide, I'll always find you." She winks and chuckles darkly, struggling against the restraints once again to reach for anything dangerous in reach.

As she does so, she actually answers. "And you'd care, because if dear little wifey discovered you were torturing little high school girls for your own sick pleasure, she might just end your little 'research project' of horror. Violently."

So my power can only protect me. Jake thinks to himself. Well, he could still test his power out more. He takes off running through the woods at a sprint, maintaining his power. He wondered how long he could keep his power going, and would resist the urge to let go at least once if he could, also checking his watch to see how long it took to feel that urge after activating his power. He also tried to see if he felt tired at all while sprinting. If he managed to sprint for ten minutes without stopping, he would rest against a tree and let go to see the effects.
