I found the best training target ever.
« on: August 05, 2014, 10:05:26 pm »

I became a vampire after some frustration with lying undead. I then decided to become a necromancer, so I walked to the nearest tower. Oddly, every necromancer on the tower fled when i walked up to the tower, and i found 3 dead ones inside, presumably killed by their own zombies. (???) I started killing zombies for training practice. I then noticed the little !!!! of a person that's coming but you can't see- and walked outside to find a necromancer. Killed him, butchered his corpse for fun, and then went back to the zombies. Another !!! necromancer came up to the tower, went and killed him but discovered he'd revived the first necromancer's decapitated head's skin. (again ???). I had found in 34.11 that blunt attacks were much more effective than swords against zombies, so i went and began beating it with my fists- which triggered a non-lethal fight with the zombie skin. I fought it for ~10 minutes while watching a show. I eventually drew my sword because i got tired of it and wanted it to die. It would not die. I needed to go to bed, so i propped a weight on my keyboard (on the up arrow, causing me to autoattack into it). I woke up and it was still not dead. Left for work, I came back after 10 and a half hours of work-it was still not dead.

My stats after ~18 RL hours of beating on the damn thing:

This is the new bronze colossus.

One thing though, that shield is low. I think that's the only stat that you'd want up towards 20K with dodge, plus your fighter at 30. Offensive stats are frills since you can dabble in a weapon and still run amok. Every sports adage is defense.

Anyways, very nice numbers!

Maybe if i drop/unequip my sword he will use his shield more. I guess the AI prefers parrys to blocks maybe?

I wonder how much in-game time that took? Years perhaps?

Strange, I remember killing a Hollow Skin with no problem in a recent version. Maybe something has changed while Toady was bugfixing?

Equip only shields and lie down on the ground + combat settings to close combat/stand ground/stand ground.
