Well that's quite bizarre. Are you sure they didn't break depot access? I don't understand why you didn't have access to their goods either, I have definitely used caravan goods while the animals were still there. Maybe militia-killing it  has weird consequences.

I think inaccessible depots would only have produced messages about caravans bypassing the site. The Elves still visited the fort yearly, the Dwarves and Humans never even showed themselves. I don't really know why dropped goods seemed to be still considered merchant property; luckily I could at least dump the rotting foodstuff before it stunk up the whole fortress.

Anyway, this particular incident isn't relevant to this thread but it still leads me to think that hoarding caravan guards would block later caravans. Has anyone tried it yet?

I'm pretty sure my tests in previous versions have extended to the next caravan and Lieutenant_Crow certainly seems to have done so. I haven't tested in this version yet, I really should get to doing that.

I'm pretty sure my tests in previous versions have extended to the next caravan and Lieutenant_Crow certainly seems to have done so. I haven't tested in this version yet, I really should get to doing that.

Ah well, that's fine then. Maybe guards aren't actually treated as caravan members on the same level as merchants, wagons and pack animals (as it seems).
