... The hell?!
« on: August 04, 2014, 12:42:01 pm »

I'm kinda new in this forum but old in the game. I was playing recently Adventure Mode in 40.06 to see how it's like. I read some pages in the wiki, you know, some advice. So I go for my first quest; bandits. When I arrive to the location, they were just standing there, doing nothing. I even talked to one of them without being attacked. When I decided to take "the first step" (attack one of them in the head)the others starts to run and start saying "STOP! This is not happening!" ... What the fuck? Toady! WHAT YOU DID WITH THE F*CKING IA?!

uhm, well, that's very simple. He gave them the ability to fear, but now everything fears everything... Some megabeasts are terrified of themselves now.

Yes, the reactions/emotions is very broken since 40.01, hopefully Toady will focus on this in one of the incoming bugfix release.

I'm not gonna bother playing the updated ones till they fix this problem, that problem is a big issue in my books.
I'll just stick to 40.05 till they fix it.

It's still broken in .40.05. And 0.4. And 0.3. And 0.2. And 0.1.

If you want a non-broken game, you're going to need to go back to .34.11.

I know it's broken, I ment that I'll stick to what I have till they fix it...
I prefer the constant events playing out as I play. :D

34.11 doesn't have that.

I must agree that to play the game so far it's better to use 0.34.11, much less frustrating both in Adventure and Fortress mode, much less slow in fortress mode and much less bugs (with dfhack fixing some bugs from that old release too) , now if you want to help making DF2014 live up to the big fun potential it has (and it has a lot more potential than 0.34.11 with all the new features), you can try to "play" or more exactly experiment with it and report bugs to the tracker.

The more bug report or additional save example of existing reported bugs, the better i think as it gives more reproducible cases for Toady to find the source of reported problems

I am sort of doing something like that right now with 2014.

B-But... It's kinda cool assasin lords, reclaim their sites and stuff...
.. in 34.11 if you attack someone in a fucking forest half world wants to kill you... and that's no fun at all :/

I stick to .34 for Fortress mode and will continue to do so until I feel I am sufficiently versed in Fort Mode.

But I still prefer the new ones for Adventure Mode. I'm not downloading more until the big things that break the game are fixed, but that's just because I have a bandwidth restriction due to having crappy satellite internet and unzipping is a hassle.

Unfortunately still there in 40.06, i killed a hen that was moving with a "donkey recruit", the recruit was apparently part of a bandit squad and was running in terror from me, the hen was doing the same so i assumed the hen was somehow a "bandit" too.

My companions both ran to kill me following the hen death.

I think this should be fixed as soon as possible, like in the next update because this almost completely breaks adventure mode because 90% of the enemies dont fight properly.

The broken morale at least has a workaround in modding natural discipline, which makes people act generally saner.

But yeah, generally huge bugs should be expected in single-digit releases, especially for this big an update.

I agree, now that the crashes are fixed, this broken emotion/reactions problem should take the focus and bugfixing priority, as the bug is really severe and impact the whole gameplay and immersion very negatively.
