Human Orbit is a single-player peeping-tom simulator simulation that lets you take on the role of a space station AI to influence and interact with your crew. There isn't a whole lot of information out just yet, but I will update this OP as more updates are released. General information from their website:

A sentient AI
Hack a vast communications network to access everything from maintenance requests to the Captain’s log. Uncover the crew’s personalities, relationships and deepest, darkest secrets.

A pocket society
Help, hinder or simply wreak havoc with the station’s hundred-strong crew. Identify prodigies, promote your favourites and reorder society the way you want it to be.

A universe of opportunity
This world is your oyster. Upgrade the station, reconnoitre the alien planet below or re-spec your ship as a groundbreaking interstellar laboratory – the choice is yours.

Feature list from the website:
  • Advanced AI System
  • Procedurally-generated storytelling
  • 100 unique and complex characters, each with their own personalities and histories.
  • Immersive 3D world created by Dan Raihert (Environmental artist on Dead Space 3, The Sims 3)
  • Atmospheric SFX by Eli Hason (Senior Sound Designer on Thief (2014))
  • Node Based Dialogue Editor
  • Modding Tools

Lots of dev posts on their blog:

Well, it's a fascinating concept. Very curious to see where this goes.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

The idea sounds lovely, but I've said that line before.  I shall keep a weather eye on it, though.

I can't help but feel that being the environmental artist for Dead Space 3 and Sims 3 isn't a particularly positive indicator for how the environment will actually be, as I've heard absolutely nothing about the design of either in all of their years released.

Can anyone vouch for either one's design in that regard, or is my sense of underwhelm appropriately placed?
Being the environmental artist for Sims 3 means nothing.  The environment is... well, it depends how it's defined.  On the most basic scale, thing like grass and water are pretty good.  On the larger scale, your house sits in a circle of pretty copy-pasted items.  Everything is pretty simplistic and not too impressive.  Just trees and rocks, rotated.  A bit of sun...  The actual layout is semi-decent, like what areas are shore and what areas are city or residential... but still nothing too amazing.

If you mean "environmental artist" as in "I designed the play area" then, well, aren't I the designer of that? :P

'Enviromental artist' isn't exactly the sort of thing you can throw out there the same way as 'Composer' or 'Lead designer' or 'Character modeller', and have people notice on their own as far as I know (which isn't very much). Mostly I think because what you did is in the background, probably forgotten about unless you're playing the game or you did really well at it.

I have no idea how much of a final representation this will be, but there are some in game screens on their twitter:

I also have been poking them a bit on twitter and they've responded to a few questions. Regarding when we might hear an update on their UI and interface:

@hunterswd We'll have something on that before long. There's a lot of data in Human Orbit and it's vital to display it coherently. Big ideas

Nice to see they're communicating with the fanbase though.

Edit:

Sadly they don't seem to need writers yet :(
