I say we develop something completely off-kilter. Something that can give them just enough misinformation to work to our advantage.

After all, you know they'll be doing the same thing to us.

I also say continue working on assimilating the fortress, produce more research crystals, and most of all: start going down. I want to see what the interior workings of this planet are.

Develop a crystal that has a hidden message in it, hide this message as thoroughly as you can, and then give one to them, The message shall be a holographic image of their rear end.

Yes. Base it off feeler crystal since that stuff is fairly useless.

I don't think we even know what their butt looks like

Besides which

I give -1 anyway, no butt message. Why would we give them any sort of message? They're just going to take it apart and analyze it molecularly. We need to simply make sure they won't be analyzing what we really are made of.

Well, it wouldn't be hard to see what their butt looks like. We could just scan their back with xrays or something, the guard is still sitting around near the diplomat. Occasionally he gets up to move around.
As for the other half of the update, I felt kinda blurg in general yesterday/today. Not sick afaik, just lots of drainage and stuff. It'll get there tommorow or soonafter, whenever I can actually put together the writing and the likely-involved math without making a terrible mess out of it, sorry.

Cycle 56 (continued)

...Acceptable. However, you will be the one handing over the information first. The crystal will be reactivated if we are forced to go first.
[unidentified user] - Fine, fine. It is surprising how fast you accepted however, I'd expected to have to argue and haggle with you over this. What are you planning?
The sooner we Crystalline have the forgite, the sooner will be closer to considering accepting you as...allies. Or at least, non-aggression. Strictly speaking, the Crystalline do not require allies to survive, just resources and time.
[unidentified user] - You are a rock. You don't need allies.
This is entering the realm of diplomacy, not negotiation. Now Mr Unidentified-but-likely-starts-with-a-B, are we done here?
[unidentified user] - We are.

You get to work on putting together a special kind of crystal. As requested, you will not order it to energy burst on damage to preserve secrecy. However, probably-Bor did not ask for a specific crystal type, and that will be the end of him, success-wise. Because while making useful additions to the whole requires significant energy, making a crystal that is useless is exceptionally simple.

First, you mentally reconstruct the form and function of a feeler crystal. Next, you strip out the freebuild potential (you will only need to create one of these, and do so personally, so there is no need to build in functions for lower outposts to parse.), the color (draining it into a colorless opacity), the movement potential (similar to conveyor crystals), any reference to refined crystals (replaced with references to low-quality crystals to the point where you get sidetracked pondering the idea of a LowQ-based feeler, before discarding the idea as not structurally sound), the conversion potential (Theres no point in letting them know thats even possible outside of arms crystals and diplomats), the potential for re-adding energy generation (you'll never be upgrading this thing anyway), and the basic integral structure that allows the cyclic pulse to flow through harmlessly, since it never will be touched by you in the future. Once thats done, you're left looking at the bare, pure crystal structure of everything that you control is built upon; although a colorless, ugly opaque version of it. Still, you'd forgotten how simple it was, how easily influenced it can be, and realize that may be the key to solving the movement base problem. You hold onto the thought of the crystal deconstruction and order the Movement section of the research crystals to try stripping their work down to pure structural crystal and build back up from there before returning to making a useless fabrication.

Next, it has to do something. if it doesn't, it will be obviously a fabricated structure and they'll know for certain its not representative. So first, you ask the diplomatic crystalline to switch to X-ray communications and scan the back of the guard for its waste output. Butt picture in metaphorical hand, you add it to what you quite ironically decided to call the Useful Crystal. Then you encrypt the image with a basic sort of shenanigans that makes the picture change from an xray of an Alterin butt to a picture saying 'Not quite done! :P' in roughly the same colors. You then wrap that up an a big mess of cryptography, avoiding anything that feels similar to what you ran into while looking for that public channel. Then you randomize it, so that if they don't figure it out on the first try, the second try will have a different answer. After you've finished that (and finished adding some simple password-protection-only gibberish with vague but nonsensical references to the proxians in the empty parts), you are satisfied with the result.
If all goes well, all you'd have to do is mention you left a number of secret messages in it, and it should distract them from actual research for so long breaking down layer after layer of apparent defenses only to be met with an xray of their own butt that you'll get a headstart on either cracking their network security or forging your own variants of forgitar half-crystals. And since it lacks even the basic essentials LowQ crystals have that differentiate them from assimilated matter, if you ever make contact with it again, you can destroy any evidence of it simply by existing in contact with it and waiting for it to crumble under the strain of getting bashed about by the cyclic pulse.

The only sad thing about this is that you'll only be able to do it once if the Alteri are as smart as you expect they are. You call out to the guard.

Quote
"Eh, what do you want, rock dude?"
You then forge the Useful Crystal on top of the diplomatic crystalline, before disconnecting it from yourself so that its easily (for definitions of easy, considering the weight...) picked up.
We have decided to give you Alteri a gift. Please call Scientist Bor and ask for him to bring something of similar value down here in exchange.
"Thats not exactly a gift then..."
We could unmake it if you want.
"Oh. Um. No thanks. I suppose he'll be happy with it regardless of it being more trade than gift..." the guard says, unconvinced. Eventually Bor arrives, with a handheld device.
"Ah, Crystalline. This...object is a surprise, coming from you. I assume you can read our language?" Bor says, eying the dull, colorless hunk of crystal suspiciously.
We can. Also, you look rather bothered by something.
"Did you give us a rock that superficially looks crystal-like? Its just very...dull, and I'm not going to trade useful information for useless rocks."
No, the structure is fully crystal; we just did not feel like adding color to our gift. Instead, we hid a number of secret messages in it.
"Oh really now? Interesting. Regardless here you go, the 'something similar' you requested. Now, is it possible you could make a quick fiber optic wire to plug this into, or will I have to manipulate the device manually and boringly?" Bor says, showing the diplomatic crystalline the port in question. You put together a wire that fits it, and download the entire contents of the device. Unsurprisingly, Bor had wiped it clean of any trace of useful information outside of Forgite details, although you did pull out a full description of the devices' hardware specs from the diagnostics program, and what you would consider the control center of the device held two copies of its operation programming: One active and running, the other one inactive and uncompiled, taking up all the remaining space in the core storage. You took the latter as well for analysis before destroying the cable and speaking.
Information acquired, thank you very much. By the way...would you like to hear our name for that kind of crystal?
"I don't see why not. It might give us a clue whats in there."
The Useful Crystal.

At first glance, the forgite details sound uncompromised, as requested. Perhaps he used more trust than his maxim described, but you'll need the rest of the cycle to fully read over the details, formation, weaknesses, other strengths, and composition of the substance, and test it against what you already know of it to determine truthfulness.

Yes, I know there was asking for more exploring too. But I wanted to clean up this turn before I make a big mess of it by also adding in the next scale up. As previously mentioned, the next scale is essentially 10-1, so one block in Scale 2 is 10 blocks in the base scale. Scale (or Tier if you want) 2 crystals are approximately multiplied by 10 in most aspects (sight radius will look the same, assuming its a scale 2 crystal and not a base-scale one , since the map would look pretty much the same, just far more compressed) as well, including costs. These will be described only as needed, since its just copying and upscaling already-known crystals.
Adding new kinds of crystals is unchanged, but do specify if you are making it for T1 or T2, please. A Palantir, while impressive by itself for having a sight radius of 2 in scale 2 despite not being built for that level, is hardly much compared to a scale 2/T2 Palantir Oversight Cluster, which has an effective sight radius of 200 base-scale blocks, or 20 T2 ones. It also costs a ridiculous amount of energy, but really, did you expect anything else? :P

Lastly, the temporary maximum for T2 crystal (this does not apply to base-scale crystal) fabrication is 150k. This may go up next cycle, depending on when we upgrade with the forgite and if it was indeed legit information.
