Well, going deeper would find one of three things (going super super deep would just give you magma and/or the other side of the planet, depending on if its a silly post or not :P ):
1. More stone.
2. More interesting rocks than stone.
3. Magma!

I mean deep enough to withstand an Orbital Kinetic Bombardment, which is what would penetrate the deepest if used. Shouldn't need to go down to the Mantle~

I vote go down. We have moire than enough energy to send a feeler down 1000 squares and then fully assimilate a square on a far more zoomed out map.

Wait.

We can add things to it?

WHAT?

How does that work???

Armok, we can't do that in a single cycle. It would take too long. And besides, there's no actual point in it, and I don't think anyone really wants to force stuff to zoom out yet. That's just putting more stress on the GM.

Half-crystal or not, its a fully converted form, like storages or refined or palantirs or arms crystals. It just takes...more effort, as shown by the base 120k cost. And we'd need to steal/ask for/research the fabrication method and combine it with the crystal interweave anyway to make more.

Huh.

Does it do anything particularly special if we add stuff to it?

Ah well, I guess we'll have to find out, and even more fully integrating it probably just isn't possible without destroying it and everything around it yet.

Though, with how good of a conduit it is, we may be able to siphon some stuff off their fusion reactor soon...I guess we'll see.

Some intensely specialized crystal forms.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: It Probably Won't Work (click to show/hide)

Anyway. More serious note.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I would like to build another 20 Processor Crystals, assign 4 of them to Proxian Glyphs, 3 of them to Proxians, 3 more to Geology/Environment/Astronomy(I meant Astronomy originall >.<), 2 more to Forgite details and the new Forgitar Half-Crystals and the material and whatnot, and the last four to Diplomacy.

Then I'd like us to Assimilate Stone in all directions except up, outwards. Not stupid amounts of it, but enough that we keep growing. We need to keep growing. As well, spread some more Repair Crystals out, keep the network nice.

Finally, build a Palantir near the edge of where we can see the Alterin's fortress(so that it gives us vision, basically. :P), refining a Farseer, and...begin negotiations.

Build a Diplomat above our Shield Crystals that sit in the ruined housing. I would like to speak with the Proxians. If we find them to be irreversibly hostile to us, we can assimilate them and their glyphs, taking care to keep the shapes and whatnot of the glyphs intact for our own use. Magic would be nice, even if we already are magic.

And...that's all I can think of for now.

What about a mouthpiece crystal? It's only purpose would to create holographic images and sound, and would receive sounds as well.

On fusion-stealing: We still need the control crystal types (to contain the energy flow outside a crystalline structure and draw on it as needed), and for full-scale Prime-style fusion reactage we'd also need crystals that amplify the reactor's output (and perhaps the materials to build more reactors, it had more than one after all), but if we used those now we'd just blow up from the magnitude shift. And also take the Alterin fortress and the city-state of Proxians with us.

Reinforcement Network, being like Vision Network, gets the same extra point of cost added to it.

On Interest/Recursive energy flow points: Anything that produces energy can't cost less than the plain energy production option for consistancy's sake. (In otherwords, it negates removed energy production or Storage Zero at level one, and I'll decide the cost of additional levels as they come up, or probably find someway to match it up with the increasing energy production levels and up the cost of interest levels as they meet, something like that.)

For the Conveyor, I offer two ways:
1. pulling some significant research away from other areas into Movement & Non-typical formations, and having it as the goal. Focused research is focused, like how longcat is long and old meme is very old.
2. The alternate fabrication method that involves energy and dice. Quoted below since its been entirely unused since I posted that.
Quote
After that, its either a new crystal form, or a crystal with a different function & name. [The second one is what you've been using] New crystal forms require either a lot of luck (d20, over or equal to 15 succeeds, rolls of less or equal to 5 will result in Integrity damage) and energy (use whatever significant amount you want of at least 10k, the important part here is the luck, not the exact cost.) to reforge them out of other sorts of crystals, or just new materials and an attempt to convert them.

On Perpetual motion crystals, thats actually what I'd thought sounded like a good idea to scale towards at the time (thus the 20-scale), but since you spend energy sending the energy to do what you want to do and that reduces the amount needed by 100% when it arrives, where does it go? :P
Although Tesseract as a color for an energy-teleporting crystal could be interesting. Avoiding breaking the (unreinforced) flow limits of other crystals by skipping past them and sending the energy directly from one point to the other could make for an interesting next-scale kind of crystal!

28 points is 14k, so yes. Barely.

What about a mouthpiece crystal? It's only purpose would to create holographic images and sound, and would receive sounds as well.
I'd assumed the Diplomat crystal would have some sort of communications, yep. :)
Or is this more of a 'Ignore subordinates and think up your own speeches to shout at the world' sort of thing instead of a modified and talkative Overseer?

So depending on your idea of the situation, the music I had while making this post may or maynot be fitting. Its usually not at all to me with the size of the playlist, but they came up at the end of building the post, they both kinda fit, and this is a significant cycle anyway, so I went and refound them on youtube.

Cycle 51

Well then. Considering the situation, you might as well diplomat a bit, save yourself some research time if it works out. You spend some time listening to the Proxians and decide you might want to do this diplomacy personally, as opposed to semi-personally with a diplomat crystalline to help. So you set a couple up, one prepared (but not yet started) to take the place of the top arms crystal (although additionally modified to allow a passthrough shot)

Quote
Hail, Master Arcanist. We come with interest.

Master Arcanist Proxian: Who is intoning at me in such a manner while I am busy checking glyphs!? Begone from interrupting me thus!

You would outright deny speaking to Emissary of Crystal, of Terra arcanum?

He looks around for a moment, before spotting the red crystal that has grown in the hole in the floor. "Oh...well then. I had not expected guidance to surface from the earth arcanum so soon after a blast. I apologize for the rude greeting."

It matters little, crystal is not always as patient as the rest of the arcanum. Still, we come with interest. What is happening upon thy surface? Your glyphs, they are scarred with flame. Your structures, they have been shrunken in number instead of grown. Far to the east of this point, we hear rhythmic rumbles and know of many unnatural objects appearing from the knowledge of the others as it echoes throughout the land.

"Ah, yes. The Outsiders. If I may ask, how long has the land known of them? It has been at least a moon since the siege began to oust them."

Long. They are not disruptive in the current present as they have ceased to dig, it appears they only needed to bury a singular yet significant structure. It is the source of the rumbling. This floor pattern, it appears new.

"It is not particularly new, Crystal one. But we have not needed to secure the foundation of structures before against etherfire."

Solfire.

"...What now? But Solfire is nearly impossible to pull from thin air as the Outsiders do. Not to mention the heat would melt any material, and the focus required would demand the full attention of half a legion of arcanists to do it without a sacrifice to incinerate into such. It cannot be of Sol."

Incorrect. Aether and Ignis arcana agreed, many times ago after the second launch. It is akin to grabbing a piece of the daystar in your hand, the projectile is. The heat, of most destructive levels. The destruction and vanishment upon impact with something, also correct for Sol. The range is unusual, and likely has to do with their launching device. Sol material does not go far without fading out as you know, Master Arcanist.

"Someone has stolen my notes on the aether and is very carefully attempting to trick me. This is nonsense, Solfire cannot be created in such amounts without sacrifice. The Outsiders will run out of others to sacrifice before we run out of will for the Proxian way, and I am going to tell the council such after my investigation here is done. Whoever you are, you cannot dissuade me."

You are sounding less masterful as you go, arcanist. Are you sure you are able to continue as Master? Emissary of Crystal is not infallible in its determination of who is nearby and will not speak to arrogant initiates.

He sighs, and waits some moments before responding. "Yes, I am able to continue, Emissary of Crystal. I know my apprentices, and none of them could say such a thing with such a distinct lack of interest in becoming the master early. And I suppose you cannot come with me and speak of matters to the council."

Correct.

"I will tell them of you and convene tomorrow's meeting over here then at sunset, with guards to protect against potential outsider threats outside of the Meeting Hall."

A reasonable length of time. Farewell.

You rest and let the diplomat crystalline talk to you if they want for sometime afterwards, slightly tired from the effort of sounding so monocular. But the Proxians expected earth spirits, if they show up at all (something about being unhappy about the stone mining), to use one voice and little tone. Thankfully, the Alteri likely expect no such thing, and you can just speak to them as you would speak to another crystalline. One that you do not trust, but suggesting that is difficult after speaking as if you were a random piece of rock is similar to saying the sky on this planet is a different color that it is: Entirely wrong. So you quickly calculate how many cycles there are between then and now (not many) and prepare to surprise them with the fact that you've reacquired access to the shaft. You let the diplomat start this time, after doing what you'd prepared for the one over here.

Quote
Alteri 1: Hey! hey, go get Tiror! Quickly! The crystal is turning red! I don't want to get blown up by a goddamn rock!

Well, hello there, I'd wondered when you'd notice. You jerk.

Alteri 1: Also go get that bossy asshole from R&D! It talks!

Alteri 2: Not the commander?

Alteri 1: Of course not. Not going to ask the commander to come until we know what it is and why it got insulted instead of exploding.

I could blow up on you if you really wanted me to.

Alteri 1: Um...um. No. very no.

So. Do I call you Shouty Alteri or do you have a name?

Jim: I'm Jim. And it sounds like you know more about us than we know about you.

You aren't exactly the most aggressive species when it comes to geological experiments, are you. Its been... It quickly asks what cycle you were found in the shaft on and continues what, 10 cycles since you found some unknown crystal in a shaft of your building? Long time. And you didn't even take an entire section when you did do something.

Jim: Oh no. No. I am not arguing with a rock. I am not arguing with a rock. I am not arguing with a rock.

So you're ignoring a rock instead?

Jim: No I'm not! The crystal changing and talking and being sarcastic is just my imagination. I'm in the medcenter for some reason, maybe I tripped on the sharp edge of that reactor shaft crystal?

Looks like a pretty badly lit medcenter to me.

Jim: Someone needs to change the lightstrips.

So theoretically, if you met a sentient crystal-
Jim: Which I have not.
Yes yes, its a dream, etc. You're missing the point.
Jim: Sorry.
If you met such a crystal, what would be the first thing you did?

Jim: Go call for Tiror. And if it could talk directly to me, maybe someone from R&D too. Hopefully the quiet guy if he's not busy, not the more senior one.

Tiror: Oi, Jim, you having a bad day today? You sent someone shouting after me for a nonsense reason.

Scientist 1: I am going to stab you with this pen if this is a joke.

If that happened, then who am I?

Jim: You are a guy in a super bulky camo suit trying to prove I'm crazy.
Tiror: Serious bad day then. You're talking to yourself too.
Scientist 1: Again, sssssstab. You. If this is a joke.

But I am not an Alteri, and wearing no suit.

Jim looks around frantically for some kind of microphone in the wall before shouting "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!" and falling over.
Tiror: ...I'll go take him to the medcenter. The actual medcenter. You, stabby one. He probably meant that red hunk of crystal blocking the shaft now.

The scientist looks over towards you. "Ah. You are not teal."

And the one with the pen wins the award for most obvious statement!

Scientist 1: i can see this will be a wonderful relationship already.

Aw, you're actually paying attention. Messing with him was more fun than I'd thought it might be.

Scientist 1: I am Bor. You are who.

You jump into the conversation now:
I am a new diplomatic crystalline who hasn't decided if he needs a name yet.
We are Crystalline.

"I'm not speaking to two aliens at once. One at a time."

I will speak then, I have seniority. Ask your first question. You say, having given the diplomat a chance to sit back and listen.

"Why are you here?"

Straight to the point, then? Fair enough, that makes things easier. We are an offshoot of the Prime Crystal, although its been so long its location is not as precise as I'd prefer. I crashed into this warfield of a planet in the middle of a storm, 51 cycles ago. If you want more details you'll have to answer our question.

"The Alterin Imperium does not recognize 'cycles' as a valid-"

That is beside the point, we are not Alteri.

"I will not be interrupted!"

Nor will you be furnished with anything more if you insist on trying to draw an exact time for your clocks out of us when I have already said exactly how long it was. Crystalline are not naturally trusting of other races, to your probable disapointment.

"You are as insufferable as the Head Agent with your grip on information."

Are you sufficiently annoyed to want to give the task over to him?

"I am not giving up access before his vault of a department gets a hold of this. Ask."

Why does this fortress hold a fusion reactor below it?

He grimaces for a moment before responding. "You...of course. Of course the xenogeological formation would know of what rests underground. It is for powering the base."

Such a simple answer hides more interesting details.

"You are unlucky you did not meet my more excitable coworker. Now, why are you so interested that you'd ask about the reactor before us?"

While you have more ability for intrigue than your blunt personality had predicted, the answer is rather simple. We found it before we found the surface of your fortress, and it would be a spectacular source of energy if we had the proper storage to use it to the fullest.

"Ah, so you are not the smart being I'd expected. You just want more energy."

And you are less perceptive than expected. Clearly the reactor is yours, and under your control. Why would we ask about it in a way that suggests we want it when all the power appears to be in your hands?

"You...no. You couldn't do that. Forgite is nigh-invulnerable to energy. Even if you could manage to pierce a section of it, it would take an astronomical waste of energy reserves to take multiple sections, much less the whole base. Not to mention the amount of time necessary, the material was thoroughly tested. The amount of time required to force access throughout a forgite-based fortress via purely energy-based means rivals modern password bruteforcing in its length and difficulty."

Time is of the essence, Mr. Bor. This was most enlightening.

They have created a material that they themselves cannot siege without specialized equipment, therefore they believe themselves unassailable without the forewarning of their sensors...you leave the diplomatic crystal silent towards him and return to your Forgitar crystals, forge one more, and laugh heartily and evilly to yourself and your companions the diplomats.

120k minus a percent is still a lot of energy, and you probably would end up spending more than the reduction making it so.
Also it'd only help until we moved on to inside the fort.

What about 100 energy base reduction to assimilation and upgrading in a medium to wide area that affects most types of other crystals, (Excluding itself and the core) that could then be upgraded to 200, 500, and so on later? Then later on we could development on a percentage based counterpart to it, and possibly a variation which still provides the flat reduction, but with a reduction radius that stacks with itself additively.
