(The settlers are simple laborers and farmers. They can operate machinery, and maybe put it together from parts, but making it from scratch is out of the question until some engineers or mechanics show up.)
The settlers organize and clear a small area near the outcrop. After the crops are tended, they begin to extract copper ore from the rocks. +15 copper ore, +15 Stone. The western forest, and the swamp remain unexamined for minerals. The whole island is still unexamined for wild animals, and edible plants.
The weir continues to provide fish. +3 food.
It is now late spring.
Community:It's been 2 months since the settlers unloaded their meager possessions onto the island. They were strangers then, brought together only by their shared struggle to leave the poverty and oppression of their homes. Now they all know one another, and generally get along. Everyone helps out, and everything is held in common. Some wonder if the communists were right all along. Soon they will learn that even in the worker's paradise, there are specters of ageless evil.
Harold was the only settler to smuggle alcohol onto the ship. He's an old sailor himself, and got along well with the crew on the
Sweet Jane. He still has quite a bit of rum in his cellar. He's been drinking more lately, and came to work at the mine drunk. The other workers stopped him from hurting himself, but now he just sits in his hut and drinks all day.
Decisions:What's to be done with Harold? He might be a harmless drunk, or he might not. Regardless, everyone else has to work harder to make up for his absence.
What's to be done with the ore? You might build a refinery, but that would require a lot of fuel, iron, and most of all
work. The settlers are overworked as it is.
