Primitive Accumulation(Game)
« on: July 30, 2014, 02:32:04 pm »

Story:
In the year 2037, 15 passengers managed to board a small exploring vessel, the Sweet Jane. They were taken to the new islands which had become inhabitable due to the Planetary Collapse.
They escaped the crowded, polluted, dying cities, and struck out for a new life on the frontier. Some problems they encountered were expected. Others were wholly new to them.

Decisions:
When the Sweet Jane dropped anchor, there were many decisions to be made:

Would the resources smuggled on board be stockpiled communally, or would they be handed out among the settlers?

Would the settlers live in a village, or would they split up into homesteads?

Would they even settle this particular island?

-A small island, low lying in the middle with a swamp in the south, and a shallow bay in the north. Slightly more elevated areas to the east and west, with dense vegetation. A small lake in the east drains into a stream, which leads into the swamp. It seems fertile enough, if a bit too small for wide expansion. The only man-made structure is the old dock built by the first explorers to discover this island.

Uhm... how do you play? Is it suggestion? Do we create characters? Does each person control a number of the stranded? Could you please clarify.

Sorry about that. The basic idea is that you vote on the decisions. When there are a few posts with the same choices, an agreement is reached and the story continues, in whatever way the decisions guide it.

"The stranded" and "until help arrives" made me laugh a bit at my apparently vague writing. There is no help. They're not stranded, they've illegally fled the polluted, irradiated shell of a country they're from. They're looking for a new home.

Also, all three decisions should be answered. They're all pressing questions about the nature of your new society.

1. I vote that supplies be stockpiled communally.
2. I would like to live in a village.
3. Before we decide to settle here, can we survey the island on its suitability for growing crops and its capacity to support 15 people?
4. Review our smuggled cargo.

Let's stay and have both people and resources kept together. Can we get a list of resources and the area of a square?

(A square is a little less than an acre, I guess. I never really thought about it.)
(Those dark green areas are forests, so you shouldn't be running out of timber anytime soon.)

The settlers decided to stop here. Many were seasick and tired of the cramped quarters on board.
They also decided to build a community. They threw some huts together just south of the beach.
The settlers also built a couple of wooden barns for communal storage.

The Island:

-The land is quite fertile and you think all of your crops will grow and all your livestock will thrive.
-There are no wild animals apart from dirty sea birds and the many fish which live in the shallows around the island. There may be more animals, but you haven't found any in a few days, so they must be fairly solitary.

Stockpile:
60 Food(Poor variety, Poor quality)(Exactly enough for everyone for 1 year)
3 Timber
4 Stone
4 Iron
5 Copper
1 Solar Panel
Misc. Tools(Picks, Shovels, Wrenches, Axes, etc.)
2 Rifles
2 Pistols
2 Cartons Rifle Ammo
2 Cartons Pistol Ammo
Seeds(Grain, Legume, and Root)
4 Goats
(Everyone has personal belongings, but the above list is just whats been put in the barns.)

Decisions:

It is Spring. It is time to plant Grain and Legumes. Will the farming also be done communally, or should each family have their own plot of land?

Will some settlers be sent to look for more animals, despite the risk? Will they search the swamp, the forest, or the beach?

Who will look after the goats? Everyone? The goats' original owners?

((How many land tiles do we have?))
One large communal farm ranging from the village to the river split into smaller squares farmed by family units but communally used. Have one family be designated as the livestock farmers tasked with looking after the goats. Make note of useful skills and general population.

+1. Do the solar panels have the other stuff needed for them to function? (Wires etc.)
