Building Destroyer+Support=???
« on: July 30, 2014, 01:51:01 pm »

I checked the wiki and couldn't find whether building destroyers of the level 2 variety can destroy supports?

I want to know because I would just love it if this forgotten beast would break a support on its own and kill itself with a cave-in trap seeing how it has poisonous vapors...

Yes I believe this is a fairly common way of dealing with FBs.

Thanks for the reply, I just didn't know whether I would need a lever or just to let the thing go about its business and kill itself. Hurrah for supports being breakable!

Hmm... it bypassed the support entirely. I don't think they can actually destroy them.

What material was the support made out of?

It was made from a stoneware brick (brick made from fire clay). Those count as normal stone blocks (I think) so it shouldn't have been any different.  :-\

Only "undead" (NOT_LIVING, which includes beasts made of inorganic materials) building destroyers go after supports, and they only go after wooden supports.

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Hm.. that's very strange behavior. Thanks for the info though!

It's how building destroyers have always behaved, even back in the days of Boatmurdered. I don't claim to understand why they act that way, but I've analyzed the code closely enough to know that they do behave that way.

Wiki should be tweaked slightly to reflect this behavior if it's not already. Last I checked (which was a while ago) it gave the impression that all building destroyers went after supports. Which is clearly not the case.

That IS freaking weird though.

As far as I recall, they'll go after supports so long as there's nothing else to go after.  If they travel towards your fort, do not encounter a fortress creature (dwarf, dog, etc), and encounter a support, they'll start to destroy it.

BUILDING_DESTROYER:1 is limited to wooden doors, furniture, etc.
BUILDING_DESTROYER:2 can go after any non-terrain building of any material.

Small wooden supports with 1 floor are useful as troll traps.
