Bedroom Designs!
« on: July 27, 2014, 09:01:21 pm »

My contribution to the idea!  This is a variation on the Windmill Villas blueprint, intended for those who want to give every dwarf a full complement of furniture.  The thing is huge and I built it in Excel; I would be glad to share the spreadsheet if anyone wants to turn it into a CSV for automatic designator utilities.  Visual is intended for square tilesets but I imagine it works just find for anything.

Has anyone got any particularly visually interesting bedroom designs?  I keep wanting to do something based on hexagons with a bunch of little courtyards but I have not had the gumption to do that kind of design.

May i suggest postimage.org for uploading pictures.

Imageshack is basically pure crap.

I say this because your thumbnail does look pretty interesting.

[downloaded fine for me, but was not viewable without downloading]

Pretty, but with hallways that small and the doors not really opening up onto the main hallways the travel times for movement cannot be that good.

Very pretty though... what's up with Stonehenge, just for looks?

I am not certain what is meant by "Stonehenge" but the idea for is always the visual appeal.  This could actually be filled in with more rooms but, as it stands, there are nearly 200 of them and I like that it actually came out looking like a windmill.  Now that I look at it, I realize that I made a mistake in aligning some of the parts (all copy-pasted chunks in Excel) and that is the only reason it looks like it does.   I guess I am all for happy accidents!

My apologies for the bad link, here is one hosted at IMGUR.  Spoiler because large image is large.

That is awesome.  How many rooms are there?

I've been looking for a way to get myself out of 2x3 'barracks' rooms for a while now.  Literally just 1-4 zlevel high stacks of 20 rooms.  Variations include branching, but it isnt exactly designed for aesthetics.

I could be sorely mistaken in my math but it looks like 272 rooms.  It is a truly massive residential level and I am thinking I want to use the groups of four rooms all together as a suite for nobles.

But how do you contain the magma in rooms for nobles?

BTW it is impressive indeed, but it wouldn't be practical in my style of game, where every room is more or less managed individually. It is easier to manage smaller rooms in my opinion.

:P  build a bridge in the corner of the room.  and a sacrificial lever next to it.
