I just had a fisherdwarf go berserk due to failing his mood.  At the exact same time this happened a child attacked a mechanic and began screaming about vengence in the combat log, the mechanic killed the child, and then mechanic was then shot to death by a hunter.

None of this involved the berserk dwarf but it all happened right next to him while he was being killed by my militia, he also died AFTER all that was over.

I have no idea what just happned.

Edit- Looking at the combat logs the mechanic attacked the berserk fisherdwarf right before the child began attacking him.  The mechanic also appears to be speaking to the child "i cannot just stand by, there is no need for vengence."

Edit2-the mechanic did all the vengence talking, the child never said a word.

Edit3-The mechanic was the first person to lay a finger on the berserk dwarf (which i assume is why the child attacked him).  And the child and berserk dwarf were not relatives.  Both the child and mechanic still count as part of my fortress but the berserk dwarf does not.

I guess the child did non consider why the conflict started. He just saw a fight, and decided which side he liked more. It's the new version of a loyalty cascade. Best to watch the survivers to make sure they don't get into more fights over this.

Looking at it again closely i actually see the fisherdwarf who the mechanic attacked was not even the berserk one.  It was just some random fisherdwarf.  The child then rushed to their aid, got killed by the mechanic, who was then killed by the hunter.  Again this mechanic was not the dwarf who went berserk, nor was the person he attacked.  It was a unrelated incident that happened at the same time right next to the berserk guy.

Was the now dead mechanic somehow connected to the berserk dwarf? My guess is, the mechanic became hostile towards your home civ, probably by the berserk inncicent.

I had a similar thing in adventure mode, where the local lord told me bandits were harassing people, so i go and start killing them (I'm pretty sure I assumed correctly that they were the goblins running around attacking people)  then a local peasant runs out and attacks me talking about vengeance (he also refused to yield so I had to kill him  )

Yes this sounds exactly like what i had happen.  I don't have any backed up saves, sorry.
