Along with that my metal-smiths forge shows various divine metals available for use and soot monsters and trolls appear on my units screen... by the way what is a soot monster?

I'd like to post a few screenshots I took, how do I do that?

dead creatures appear in the missing/deceased list even if you haven't discovered the caverns yet. It's possible that those divine metals are on the map somewhere. Possibly knocking around in a cavern or the HFS (though I'm not sure if the bug goes that deep) outside of view.

Even if you found a suitable opening, I doubt it would prove all too satisfying. And it might leave some nasty wounds, depending on the moral high ground's geology.
Location subject to periodic change.
Baffler likes silver, walnut trees, the color green, tanzanite, and dogs for their loyalty. When possible he prefers to consume beef, iced tea, and cornbread. He absolutely detests ticks.

divine metals
Black-cap is one of the mushrooms.
Subterranean animal peoples' items show up on lists even if you haven't discovered where they live yet, and since your army isn't using said items, the game acts as if they aren't being held.

I suppose that if you do acquire some of the divine metals, they could be melted down and reforged. That's probably why they show on the forge.

Was this a reclaimed, or formerly retired fort, or was the cavern already revealed?

The game may have just claimed those items for your fort by default.

That sounds awesome!
I'll have some near-admantine powerful stuff if I use that!

none of those things, just a fresh embark, having really expensive stuff below my fort probably explains why i'm getting seiged with only 56 dwarves :D

I get the list of those metals as well, which probably means that they can be remelted if aquired (somehow)

As for the weapon, and missing animals. When stuff dies in the unrevealed caverns, they go missing for you. What could have killed them? Underground tribes. Which are armed with... blowguns, which you dwarves certainly can equip if the underground tribe is nicely asked to give them to you.

It's been my experience that most animalmen tribes have difficulty speaking with my dwarves.  The dwarves, helpful as they are, try to loosen their throats by shoving a sword or spear down their gullets and twisting.

Doesn't help with peace talks but certainly leaves things peaceful afterward, so in the dwarven mind: job well done!

PS: Seriously, you must have, like, super-getting-lost skills. You could go missing in a straight corridor and impale yourself on flat ground if I don't tell you where to go.

Please post back if you can find any of those metals on the map.

From my little understanding of a new feature to this version the Soot monsters and metals might indicate something new and exciting.

This fort is in its second year I won't be breaching HFS for a while. :/

Edit:An Ettin came to my fort, killed someone and was then "overwhelmed by horror"   I love that bug  :D

EDIT 2: Now with .40.05 the soot monsters and the troll don't appear as missing. All other strange things persisted though.
