are you sure? I remember it used to be the case, but I haven't tested it in a few versions. Mostly because the caged elves don't live long enough before I find some way to give them !!FUN!!.

Yup. Elves are immortal, it's why you never see any elven necromancers about.

Pretty sure they still go insane.  I have memories of an elven pack animals killing my queen when the mountain homes were under siege.

having thought about it for a while, while I find modding distasteful, it might be best to just mod the game so she likes "elves for their cries when a pig falls on them".

Put her in a 1x1 pit full of pigs. Eventually, when the pigs start to starve, they will attack her. I like pigs for their rage, and elf lovers for their screams.

I think it's just further proof that we're the ones with an elf problem, and that most Dwarves, when left to their own devices, are nothing like what we make them be.

There's nothing wrong with a dwarf that likes elves or piggies. Both are relatively harmless creatures. Now on the other hand if you have a dwarf that likes those filthy, treacherous, greedy, thieving, arrogant, xenophobic, murderous and irredeemably gutless humans you must purge her from the gene pool before she does something tragic like letting one of those vile creatures into the fortress under the guise of trade.

Pigs don't starve in any vanilla version (they aren't grazers).  But they may fight due to overcrowding.

Has nothing to do with that. They still have to eat, and if you don't let merchants leave the map they tend to go insane eventually.

from the wiki: If a caravan has arrived at your trade depot and is unable to leave for about two months after they finished packing up their goods, the merchants and animals will go insane. This can result in a bunch of merchants attacking your dwarves, or just standing around moping until they starve to death. It is not known for certain if this hurts diplomatic relations, but most likely it's the same as any case where the entire caravan fails to return home.

Not sure how this works with invaders if the elves are at war with you, but I was talking about capturing the merchants in that instance.

I would like to see your reaction when you come across the Elf diplomat again. It's not the wood-quota, but rather, the dialogue.

Raw wise, Elves are okayish, they value family, partying, honesty and competition, but are okay with eating the bodies of their enemies and torture as example...
Also, Dwarves have 'finds nature rather disturbing' as their standard value towards nature, so...
