Is this some sort of gravity bug? (Screenshots inside)
« on: July 24, 2014, 07:33:26 pm »

I was trying to collapse the surface so that I could have an underground pasture because I don't like using the caverns. After I collapse the layer with grass, i would have put walls and raised bridges around the hole to keep enemy ground units away, while being able to lower the bridges to completely block the opening if there were flying threats.

I dug 2 z-levels below the area I wanted to collapse and channeled the perimeter, but now it seems to be floating in midair. Please take a look and tell me if there's some support I need to get rid of.

For those who don't know, this is Phoebus' tileset. In the first image, the dark tiles with a light dot in the center represent 1 z-level of open space. The blue represents 1+ z-levels of open space.

I managed to remove the 7 pieces of flooring that was a z-level below the surface layer. So now I know of sure that nothing should be holding it up. I suspect it may be the trees. Definitely bugged

Well, if it is the trees, that's an easy thing to test. Just chop'em.

Would be funny if trees are bugged to act as magical spatial anchors.

Is there maybe contact between the upper branches of those trees and the upper branches of other trees?

No there wasn't. I can confirm that the trees were holding up that piece of floating land. I cut the trees and deconstructed a single floor piece that I had to build to reach the trees and the whole thing collapsed. I guess trees holding up a floating island isn't as unrealistic as a soap block being able to hold up a massive fortress.

Sounds like a fun new way to make a flying fortress.

1. Obsidianize an artificial mountain.
2. Carve out mountain.
3. Irrigate floor of artificial mountain.
4. Farm trees in/on mountain.
5. Dig away bottom of mountain.
6. Flying Fortress! (Just don't chop down the trees holding it up.)
