In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

If they're what I think they are then they're about as dangerous as a Guinea Pig.  :P

Unless you're a Guinea Pig of course, then they're danger noodles indeed.  :D

Snakes are either Danger Noodles or Nope Ropes, one or the other.

Mine is a Silly Snugglebug.  :P

snakes are predators so highly evolved that the universe had to take away their limbs to level the playing field

even if they're not dangerous, they're danger noodles to bauglir

Kind of the other way around. Can you imagine something that's already as adorably uncoordinated as a snake trying to control limbs as well as their body muscles?

BTW, "highly evolved" is a nonsensical phrase (amongst other things, it implies an organism can be more evolved than another).

Something totally can though. Depends on how long ago its oldest ancestor was around, relative to when it became alive. Like if we came across aliens whose planet had only given rise to life a billion years ago, we could safely say that we are more evolved, having a longer evolutionary history.

This train of thought also means that bacteria and bugs are vastly more highly evolved beings than humans.

No, it puts all Earth-originating life on the same level, assuming that it all comes from one common ancestor anyway.

Evolution happens across generations, not just time.
A given insect species has been through thousands or millions more generations than we have.

Moreover, something can exist for an extremely long period of time without actually changing in evolutionary terms if it is already supremely optimized for its particular ecological niche, irrespective of generational lifespan.  Something that does change significantly is generally more likely to be more maladapted for its environment than something that has stayed essentially the same over that same time period, regardless of how many millennia are covered.  Once again, bacteria (cyanobacteria) and bugs (dinosaur ants) form up a significant part of the list, but now we can add coelacanths, ginkgo, moss, and horseshoe crabs as well.

They *are*. Bacteria in particular. In terms of raw biomass, bacteria have beaten every single other organism, and strains can survive anything from extreme heat to extreme cold to extreme irradiation.
