I saw this in another thread and asked about it there but no one answered.

So the situation is this: I have a vampire human adventurer in a dark fortress. It happens to be one of the dark fortresses with an underworld spire. I killed the ruling demon and became ruler of the site myself. Consequently the inhabitants are no longer hostile and I can walk around wherever I want. And that's what I've been doing, wandering the underground sections of the dark fortress, including the hallways filled with little rooms, the smoothed areas with levers to open doors, and the large pit things.

In that other thread that I mentioned, I saw someone talk about a downward stair tile called "underworld portal" and apparently this is where the actual "link between worlds" is in the underworld spires/dark fortresses. I haven't been able to find it though.

So, can anyone tell me how to find the underworld portal?

I think that by 'dark fortress', they meant a vault, not the place where goblins live. I'm not sure how to go about finding one, though.

I don't think so. Dark Fortresses already exist, and there's no reason I can think of to conflate it with the spoilery place.

Yeah, I know about vaults. I'm talking about the "underworld spires" that goblins build their dark fortresses around at the beginning of time. You can see them under "structures" in legends mode, and it says that they are a link between worlds, presumably between the normal world and hell.

So basically I'm just looking for where in the dark fortress/underworld spire, the actual link or tunnel to hell is.

Maybe they were just talking about vaults in that other thread, but in any case, there should be a way to get to hell from the dark fortress if the legends mode stuff is accurate.

Those purple downstairs do exist, atleast in .40.02
I just continued going downwards after finding the children prison.

I didn't find anything but an empty room at the bottom, no demon or slab or sword.

Migue5356, your post makes me very hopeful! Can you describe exactly what you did? Was it underneath the smooth slade area (with levers and weapons lying around), or was it under one of the cavern-looking pit areas (with lots of dead bodies), or was it under the sprawling prison-room system with winding hallways? Is that what you meant by "children prison"? Because that area is HUGE.

I call children prison those layers that have smooth walls/floor with levers and locked doors, sometimes there are children from various races there (Humans, elves and dwarves) that tell you to rescue them.
Unfortunately I can't remember much else than going down a lot, but as soon as I'm done making adamantine armor for my adventurer in Fortress mode I'll go check one out and take pictures.

The Dark Spire I investigated had an underworld portal at the bottom. This portal was essentially just a purple down stair above a purple up stair called "underworld portal."

Dark Spires show up as purple squares in goblin cities, and are giant slade towers that go deep underground. All the way deep.

Thanks guys! I've been mostly looking in the not-smooth areas, but since Migue5356 said it was under the smooth area that actually makes things a lot easier. Also dbay I'll make sure I am really sure I'm in the right place. I'm in a big slade structure already, but maybe the spire is a separate structure. I'll look around on the fast travel map to see if the area I'm in is really purple.

Alright, now I've solved the first main problem but I have a new one. I managed to find a down stair that I didn't notice before hidden under a lever. I followed it into an area with really big empty rooms that looks like this: https://www.mediacru.sh/yO1BUTnBU_x0

In each level there was a down stair at the bottom which led me to the next level, getting further and further down.

I really thought I was going to do it, that the underworld portal must be at the bottom.

So yeah. I came down all this way, and all I got was a small room with a troll.

I'm going to be going back up now to see if there's anyplace where it forks off that I missed.

If you guys could keep commenting and keep describing what you did when you found the portal, that'd be great.

The place in the first two pictures is the Underworld Spire that you can see in Legends mode.
After you get to the bottom of it there are still a few floors to go that have statues and goblins/whatever civ conquered the place, eventually you'll find the underworld gate, you are pretty close.

Hmm, I didn't even know about them showing as purple blocks on the map, I just went into some random tower, went downstairs and kept going down.
This time I went for the purple sign on the map, vanished the demon and went downwards and actually found those rooms with dead bodies you mentioned. Three of them actually.

My follower count is now at 180+

So I continued and found a staircase to a goblin tower, which explains why I could reach hell while not even being in the slade structure, it seems that goblins made underground tunnels connecting the towers with the slade building.

Then my game was too slow due to the whole having 180 companions, plus they were getting in my way a lot so I retired my character there, might do another attempt at this.

Edit: Also, legends mode mentions kobolds stealing stuff from the tower, in the places the first screenshot takes place there are various crafts just all over the place, is that the place they steal from?
