Having given thought to what my character's trigger event might be, I find myself failing to come up with anything that's really satisfying to me, but I have come up with a general outline or idea about when it might happen. It's a series of events, and any of them might end up being the trigger event, I'm really not sure, but...

Basically, what happens is this; she's been having difficulty getting to and from her home because of gang violence and crime in the area. She's been forced to stay at home more often, which has been impacting her relationships and grades. At one point, a group of thugs break into her home, looking to rob the place when no one was home. They were all home, and so stuff happens, they get ahold of one of her siblings and maybe her, maybe they are about to kill one of them, or do kill one and are about to kill others, etc. If trigger event doesn't happen yet, they kidnap one or two of the people there, she might be one of them, and hold them for ransom. Maybe one of the thugs is a cape. While holding them there, she tries desparately to rescue them/to find a way out. Eventually, because all the thugs are complaining(if she's one of the people kidnapped) they decide to take a little fun with her. If she isn't, they decide to make a demonstration and kill/are about to kill one of the hostages/get tired of it and are about to kill the hostages when she finally figures out where they are and arrives. If this doesn't serve as the trigger event, all that's left is the aftermath of one or more of her siblings being dead.

Plenty of places for trigger event, no idea where you guys might want it to be. I have a suspicion you already have some powers in mind but I'm not certain. I also don't necessarily like having it be so physical and a confrontational sorta thing, but I really don't know what else to do that could be original(I also dislike doing the kidnapping thing because apparently two other people are doing it, but I had already had something like it in mind for a while now). It'd be interesting to do a more mental event, but...I dunno.

I think I'll leave it up to the GMs whether they want to use that one or something else. *sigh*

You could describe the feelings she's going through, how they affect her and what different ones could be triggers.

I actually specified what feeling my character had and how it triggered him.

What the trigger emotion or whatever would be, by the way: Refusal. Flat, absolute, total refusal. Not quite denial, since that has implications more of simply words, or the item in question being true regardless of being denied. Refusal, with a capital R. Sure, it's a refusal to give in, to let X happen, to be defeated, to stop going, and so on, but that's basically just window-dressing on the emotion itself. I'm really not sure what the power would be, probably Shaker or Trump, in all likelihood, though Breaker and Stranger would also fit somewhat with that. *shrugs* I really don't mind in any case, and any power set can typically fit any trigger, just based on the way the justification for it works. (Brute could be seeing refusal as incredible endurance and an unwillingness to let anything stand in your way, Tinker could be the same but in scientific terms, Master could be refusing to let other people do what you don't want them to, and so on)

Considering I wrote the lore, me and Dejavu agreed it would be better if I abridged it and dropped the result on you.

Abridged Lore Dump: the Things The Average Citizen of Edwardstown Knows

The Edwardstown of 2006 is a city of roughly 60 000 people built around a bend of the Chamsford River - not a large city, certainly, and not a particularly significant one, formerly quite the industrial center with its steel mills and such, though nowadays it's better known for its dairy products, most notably ice cream. There's three main parts of the city, with transition areas between them - the center, where much of the business happens, and that has quite a few upscale apartments and offices, the industrial district further away from the center that's full of old factories, some of which still operate, though most are at least partially abandoned, plus a whole lot of low-income housing, and beyond that are miles and miles of suburbs, where most of the city's residents live. There's more variety to it than that, obviously, but there's not much point providing you with a map. It's a pretty nice place to live, relatively quiet, with decent schools and hospitals and generally wholesome communities in the suburbs.

But you probably want to know more about the parahumans. As a regular citizen, you may have heard of or seen these people at some point.

Project Ed: a group of about five hundred young people led by four parahumans by the name of Ilo (makes pretty lights that stimulate intense pleasant emotions, wears a colorful, goofy-looking suit that blinks with said lights, so he gets lots of pictures in newspapers), Taproot (terrorizes suburbs with her control over plants, sometimes takes the shape of an animate, pissed-off tree to cause destruction), One-Eighty (flips things, including buildings) and Dissent (causes unexpected bad weather in places, rarely with accompanying fire, acid and brimstone, interrupts the good music on Ed FM, one of the less crappy radio stations in town, to rant about something nobody cares about for about two hours or so on roughly a tri-weekly basis). These four and their helpers perform bizarre acts of large-scale vandalism and try to preach some kind of confused non-conformist anti-corporate message that the four leaders can't seem to agree upon fully between themselves, but they all seem to believe showing off their powers in fun ways on objects they personally dislike or find boring with the help of their extended fan club, who provide monetary, logistical, reconnaissance and other support, is the best way to preach it.

Karma, or the Body Snatchers: they sometimes snatch bodies of various establishments to help fight stunts of Project Ed and other troublemakers - they seem to mostly operate in the center, and they look exactly like any wage-slave until they suddenly start beating the crap out of surprised villains. And then when the job's done, they seem to stop possessing people, and they're returned to their normal selves suddenly. They're a tad mysterious, to put it mildly, but heroic.

Skulgrat Unitasus and the Scramjet Kid: he's a giant, thirteen thousand year old ranting alien space warlord made of muscle and skulls wielding a giant jet-assisted axe, being able to fly by virtue of a jetpack and scream so loud you may temporarily or even permanently damage your hearing from being in the vicinity, she's a Tinker who builds amazing jet-propelled things that you really wouldn't like to have flying over your house. Together, they fight crime. Not regular crime, mind you. Big crime. Not much of that in Edwardstown, so they do much of their crimefighting in other towns, and only go after really bad cases or really fun ones locally.

Glazzie: she's a criminal who dresses up in a suit that's painted with eyes and has a giant plastic eye for a helmet. She controls eyes, which apparently is quite effective, and is known to be a giant asshole to anybody she encounters for some reason. Is never a gracious winner, and likes to humiliate people. Seeks out conflict actively.

Birdbrain: he's a man with super strength and endurance, and he lives on rooftops, smells like he hasn't bathed in weeks, never takes off his feathery winged suit that lets him fly, and eats whatever he finds. Kind of funny in the head, apparently, but fights crime nevertheless. Apparently quite hated by Glazzie a whole lot, probably because he always defeats her.

Reel: her superpower lets her swim really, really fast and be able to survive underwater like a fish, so that's where she lives. Sometimes comes out of the river to engage in normal crime. Probably doesn't live in the river, though. Wears a wetsuit and a welder's mask. She's been at this for twelve years, apparently, and still hasn't gotten anywhere.

Bubbles and Triplex: Bubbles thinks he's funny, and Triplex doesn't seem to agree. The former makes bubbles out of things, if you understand correctly, and the latter does some other weird physics thing, and they both wear questionable red latex outfits and leather Nazi hats (but red, so maybe more like M. Bison hats). They also seem to have a crew of normal gangsters working with them.

Kasplortch: her superpower seems to be to explode violently, spraying boiling blood, viscera and bone shrapnel around the vicinity. She's done this several times now, and stated her name is Kasplortch, and seems to be hoping to become a supervillain despite being seemingly no good at any sort of high-profile crime. She's terrible, and dangerous mostly because of it, because a bank robber who explodes dangerously when captured or shot only to return later is just about the worst kind of bank robber.

You've also heard about some kind of serial killer with three names and power over nightmares, but you're sure that's just a rumor, considering nobody's being serially killed in Edwardstown right now as far as you know.

If there are questions, or you think you could benefit from having an encounter with one of these people in your backstory, feel free to ask me for any details, since a lot is not known about them to the average citizen. Or if you're a criminal who may have seen or worked more with supervillains in Edwardstown than the average schmuck, or at least heard more about them.

Hm.

None of them really have powers that are instantly coming to mind as exceptionally dangerous, except maybe Karma, Taproot, and Skulgrat, but we probably don't know either the extent of all their powers or the skill with which they've come to use them. On the other hand, there's like 3 or 4 people who seem to just be bad at doing anything that's actually effective.

Question for a power I thought of; someone who can upgrade and manipulate technology they touch, but not invent it, would they technically be a tinker? They don't actually think of new technology, really, they just power up existing stuff and hack things in the process to make it work for them. (Refrigerator-> Glacial Cannon or Thermal Dynamic Heat Engine; .22 caliber Pistol -> 1.84 caliber Magnum Super Pistol; Truck -> Much Bigger Truck) Would they be a Master, a Tinker, or what?

That's an interesting, if slightly overpowered concept. I'd say limit it to one field and you'd have a very nice tinker power

It really depends on how it manifests.  Since your description seems closer to technopathy which is rare combination of breaker and tinker.  The technopathy will be limited to creation and not causing minor electrical storms I suppose so as to not be super op.  Additionally, I would suggest that your results are irreproducible by other tinkers, indicating that you are pouring at least a small amount of personal power into the machines you create.  Additionally if you can remotely control "Bigger Truck" then you will be considered at least a minor master.

Additionally, loving the setting.  It seems that this is not the wormverse but powers are gained in a similar fasion, is this correct?
