A nondescript man who's been drinking next to Erik stands up and exits the bar, leaving behind his phone as he does so. A minute or two after he leaves it starts ringing.

He picks up the phone.
"Eyyyyy. Whoever you meant to call just forgot their phone at the bar."
He talks rapidly and energetically.

A well-modified if husky voice, carrying a trace of an unidentifiable accent, answers.

"Forgot is a strong word, is it not, Erik?"

Erik sighs.
"Alright, what do you want?"
His voice no longer carries the earlier excitedness.

"Ah, not too fast. It's only polite to start with introductions, after all. I am the man behind the curtain, Erik. I have eyes and ears throughout the city, and they have been watching you. Call me an energetic investor. I believe you could be of value to me."

Through the tone, you can feel the man on the other end grinning.

"This is not a business contract, friend. This is a job offer. I understand you have a certain, ah, background to consider. I know what you want, and I know how you feel. There are certain matters I wish resolved, as well. I believe we share a common interest. You need help, and I can provide it. Here is my offer. Gather a team. Do as you will with it. Perhaps do for me a favor or two on occasion. If there happens to be anything you need, ask and I shall see what I can do. You entertain your dreams, you give me a fourth of what you find, I give you your heart's desires. I am everywhere, I see everything, and I can get anything, for a price. What do you say?"

Moses cracked his neck, sighing, as he walked back from outdoors. Damned drunks couldn't leave well enough alone. That was the third one he'd had to physically remove from the premises.

Taking up his position back near the end of the bar, he leaned against it and scanned the crowds for signs of trouble, though it wasn't really necessary; it was usually pretty quiet right after someone got thrown out, at least until they'd drunk enough to forget about it again. Plus, Cindy was pretty good at picking up on the hints, and usually called for security at the perfect moment. Made all their jobs a lot easier, and made the customers feel safer. Not to mention a lot less broken glass and furniture to deal with.

"A particular item acquired, maybe, or a rival convinced to leave the area. Little things, really, and I'd make it worth your while. To sweeten the deal, I'll even offer a starting bonus. Name something, and it shall be yours. I wouldn't be talking to you personally if I didn't think you were worth my while."

"I'll leave the details up to you, but I suggest you diversify. There is some hired muscle at this very bar you might talk to. I will send someone to give you the details of where to pick up your gift. Do not make me regret this investment. If you need to contact me again, use this number. I will send someone to get in touch."

The receiver goes dead with a sharp click.

Erik pockets the phone, then looks around the bar from his seat, attempting to find the hired muscle mentioned by the man.

((If you want a way to get me in, I'm thinking I posted an old style flyer on the bar pinboard for investigation services.))

Moses looms as imposing as ever, even relaxed as he is against the bar. Well over six feet tall, with a build that practically screamed power; not in the ridiculous way many wrestlers and body-builders did, but rather in the way a lumberjack was muscled; thickly, with a healthy layer of fat, and in the places that mattered.

His head turns slowly, dreads hanging loose against his black jacket emblazoned with the bar's insignia. His eyes met Erik's...and narrowed.

Just how old was this kid, exactly?

((Remember; easy way to get in: be a regular at this bar and know Moses previously, if only as an acquaintance))
