"What sort of curse?"

"Long ago, when the drow were attacking Blingdenstone, the high priest Bendekik sealed the powers of these stones. But the vile drow caught old Bendekik before he could escape, and tortured him to death for sport. While he was dying, Bendekik placed a curse on the stones with his final breath. Since then we have not been able to conduct the sacred divinations of Blingdenstone. Or... They have not worked as they are supposed to."

Steven examines the rocks closely.

Prove dwarven superiority to the uppity mage by examining the curse BETTER.

Lothinenn chuckles and examines the statues for himself

Do a check as an acolyte AND a dwarf

The stones radiate with divine energy, but it's hard to tell exactly what they do. While examining the stones in your different ways, a sense of unnatural dread settle on each of you, though it disappears just as quickly as it came.

I roll an appraise check to guess how much the stones are worth.

By themselves the stones aren't worth much. They aren't exceptionally well carved or look good. But the historical and magical value of the stones is through the roof. Of course the exact worth of the stones is impossible to tell, but they should sell for a king's ransom or two. Assuming that you had a way to move them out of Blingdenstone of course. And not get swarmed by the inhabitants, who are understandably enraged at your thief of their famous Speaking Stones.

((We'll just have to come back and steal the rocks later, Sensei.))

"So, then, priest. I assume you know of some method to lift this curse?"

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

Religion check! Attempt to remove curse! Use bless if it will do anything

We should seek the tomb, remains, or any books regarding Bendekik.

"So, then, priest. I assume you know of some method to lift this curse?"

Pingtu looks a bit ashamed as he speaks, "No, but... I recently tried a ritual divination, and heard the voice of Bendekik. But I fled before I could listen to his words since I was afraid that his vengeful spirit was manifesting. But, if you were with me while I conduct another ritual... Perhaps we'll finally put his spirit to rest."

Religion check! Attempt to remove curse! Use bless if it will do anything

(14 + 3) Assuming that Bendekik was a fairly competent high priest, his curse should be pretty powerful. Definitely more powerful than you can handle right now. Given the dim sense of malignancy radiating from the stones, you conclude that Bendekik was a powerful priest and a simple bless would do nothing to remove this curse. Right now your best and only option for removing the curse would be to find a way to appease the gnome's spirit so that it can pass on to the afterlife.

We should seek the tomb, remains, or any books regarding Bendekik.

((Well Pingtu seems to know a lot about him if you want to ask...))

"There is no point removing the curse from the stones at this time. They were cursed because of the threat of the drow, removing the curse without first ensuring their safety seems the complete opposite of what the late priest wanted."

"I might like to know more about this Bendekik character... where his old possessions are, stories and books about him perhaps. However, I'd be very interested in finding some drow blood to spill..."

((And we now know who has the most D&D experience in the party :P))

Dain continues to examine the rocks, assuredly a Sagedirk can find SOMETHING his companions missed!

((Meanwhile I will continue to shoot Dain's superiority complex through the roof))

Ask to learn this ritual sonI may hear his words

"I'm sorry, but I cannot teach the ritual to a follower of a foreign god such as yourself. But if you give me time to prepare, I can conduct the ritual myself, with you present to listen to Bendekik's spirit speak."

"There is no point removing the curse from the stones at this time. They were cursed because of the threat of the drow, removing the curse without first ensuring their safety seems the complete opposite of what the late priest wanted."

"That may be true, but it has been forty years since we started to reclaim Blingdenstone, and not once have they attacked. The risk that the drow will attack is overshadowed by the boon that removing the curse would bring. Our people would be enheartened, and the ritual divinations would alert us about future dangers."

"I might like to know more about this Bendekik character... where his old possessions are, stories and books about him perhaps. However, I'd be very interested in finding some drow blood to spill..."

"I do not know much about the local drow, save that their city is a mere forty-five miles from here, but Bendekik's body has been interred in the Ruby in the Rough, the local temple to Segojan Earthcaller. I would assume that his old possessions are interred with him. Also, I was once his pupil, so if you have specific questions I will gladly answer them."

Dain continues to examine the rocks, assuredly a Sagedirk can find SOMETHING his companions missed!

Dain disgraces the Sagedirk name by finding nothing else about the Speaking Stones that his companions did not already find.
