Dain quickly switches up to his shield and handaxe, strapping his glaive to his back, after which he dashes towards the enemy, running out of breath beside Nil.

((this is assuming diagonal squares still just count as 5 feet? If not I suppose I'll be right next to Redoran.))
I believe the 5-10-5-10 rule from 3.5 is still in place.

Quote from: basic rules
To enter a square, you must have at least 1 square of movement left, even if the square is diagonally adjacent to the square you’re in. (The rule for diagonal movement sacrifices realism for the sake of smooth play. The Dungeon Master’s Guide provides guidance on using a more realistic approach.

Initiative Order:
Nil Govosduthur
Lothinenn
Redoran
Valour
Steven Seagal
Dain Sagedirk
Gnomes
Orcs

Asbjorn

Dain quickly switches up to his shield and handaxe, strapping his glaive to his back, after which he dashes towards the enemy, running out of breath beside Nil.

Dain surges forward but can't really do anything else this turn and so just gets as close to the front lines as he can.

Quote from: Gnomes
Fire!

The gnomes fire their crossbows at the orcs! (18 + 4) Hit! 2 damage to O1! (13 + 4) Hit! 4 damage to O3! Their aim is true, but their weapons are poorly maintained and do little more than bounce off of the orcs' armour. And unfortunately for them, they now have to reload while their enemies rush at them.

Quote from: Orcs
WAAAAAAAAAGH!

The group of orcs charge forward, screaming more battle cries while they pull out shortbows and unleash a barrage of arrows. (3 + 7) Miss! (15 + 4) 6 damage to G1! (10 + 4) 6 damage to G1! (20! + 4) 3 + 5 damage to G2!

...

I swear those numbers weren't rigged. Anyways, the northern gnome gets a couple of arrows through his chest, earning a victorious cheer from the attacking warriors as he falls. The other gnome isn't as lucky, getting pierced with another arrow, but he remains on his feet for now.

After gloating about the arrow he put into the gnomish warrior, Orc #4 realizes that he should be dead right now and promptly kneels over. Orcs have the best most interesting ability.

It's Asbjorn to move forward shine!

Please throw in coordinates... That would be awesome.

Done and done. Enjoy them.

Damn that orc has taken 17 damage? I'm actually a bit afraid we'll lose the gnomes now.

At this point it mostly depends on whether Steven Seagal burns the orcs to a crisp with Burning Hands or not. Because at this point G2 is holding on by a thread.

I believe the 5-10-5-10 rule from 3.5 is still in place.

Nope, it definitely is not. Which is why I placed you where you are right now.

That orc ability is very impressive, didn't expect that one, was actually suspecting they were some gnomish illusion.
I'm re-reading the rules on breaking up movement before and after actions, and I'd like to clarify: could I move out of and and back into the cover of an obstacle in a round?
Since I'm probably going to fall asleep soon, here's my upcoming turn assuming that orcs are still alive.
Lothinnen moves to O3, fires an arrow at Orc #1, then continues on to M2 so that Redoran can have a clear corridor to fire

Asabjorn moves up to behind valour and attempts to cast guiding bolt on Orc1! Before he begins chanting he shouts at the surviving Gnome.

"Get yer arse back here gnome! Thor can't help ya if yer on yer way to Valhalla already, and neither can I!"

((Duration is cast time, right? So I have to maintain concentration for 1 whole round? I'm not used to these rules, sorry))

Nil Govosduthur
Lothinenn

Redoran
Valour
Steven Seagal
Dain Sagedirk
Gnomes
Orcs
Asbjorn

Asabjorn moves up to behind valour and attempts to cast guiding bolt on Orc1!

After dispensing some obvious advice, Asbjorn rushes forward to blast some orcs with divine retribution. (11 + 5) Hit! 4 + 4 + 5 + 4 damage! And blast them he does, as the bolt slams into the orc, setting its body ablaze with divine light! However it is still standing, but not for long...

Ima gonna move to J4 and chuck an axe at O2, then draw my hammer.

As the turn order starts from the top again, Nil moves up and hops over the barricade to face the orcs' charge. (6 + 5) Miss! He also chucks an axe at the nearest orc, but fumbles the throw and misses by a hair. Drat.

Lothinnen moves to O3, fires an arrow at Orc #1, then continues on to M2 so that Redoran can have a clear corridor to fire

(19/7 + 6) Hit! 7 damage! Lothinenn proves that he can't spell his own name doesn't need any divine guidance by putting an arrow into the orc glowing with divine light. The orc, despite being the most stubborn race underneath the planet, finally succumbs to his wounds and collapses in a bloody heap.

Redoran steps up to the plate!

That orc ability is very impressive, didn't expect that one, was actually suspecting they were some gnomish illusion.

Yeah, I really like it. Even when 'dead' they can still do some damage after all.

I'm re-reading the rules on breaking up movement before and after actions, and I'd like to clarify: could I move out of and and back into the cover of an obstacle in a round?

From my understanding, yes you can. And enemies can also ready attacks, so that they fill you full of arrows if you try that. But then you can just stay behind cover and waste their actions and so on and so forth. I had the exactly same idea the first time I read that rule too.

((Duration is cast time, right? So I have to maintain concentration for 1 whole round? I'm not used to these rules, sorry))

Yes, however 1 action is pretty much instantaneous, it's not the round, just your turn. But I suppose that someone who had readied an attack/action could make you roll for concentration before you cast the spell due to how the mechanics of the thing work out.

Hmm... I think when my action comes up I'll try to pull the gnome out of the line of fire to M6, assuming the orcs aren't all dead by then

I thought it was 1 action to prepare it and then 1 round to actually let it fly?

Redoran rushes forward with his trusty bow, ready to smite the attacking orcs!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Valour steps up to the plate. Hopefully with a ranged weapon.

That's not the way I'm reading it.

Quote from: Cast a Spell, Page 72
Spellcasters such as wizards and clerics, as well as many monsters, have access to spells and can use them to great effect in combat.  Each spell has a casting time, which specifies whether the caster must use an action, a reaction, minutes, or even hours to cast the spell. Casting a spell is, therefore, not necessarily an action. Most spells do have a casting time of 1 action, so a spellcaster often uses his or her action in combat to cast such a spell. See chapter 10 for the rules on spellcasting.

(16 + 5) Hit! 7 damage! Valour runs up behind Steven, and throws a javelin at the nearest orc. His aim is true, but the burly warrior just shrugs off the attack. Well, shrugs it off as best as he can. The javelin did end up embedded deep in his flesh after all.

Steven Seagal is next!

Hop past Nil so he's not in the way, and burn the orcs.
