Reclaiming Blingdenstone: D&D 5th Edition Adventure
« on: July 21, 2014, 08:39:56 pm »

Background

About a century ago, several thousand svirfneblin called Blingdenstone home. Their former settlement is a mere forty-five miles from Menzoberranzan, the drow city, but the gnomes used illusion, geomancy, and traps to avoid drow attention. This peaceful existence was shattered, however, when drow came in force to enslave the svirfneblin. Fewer than a thousand gnomes escaped to the surface, finding refuge in city of Silverymoon in the Silver Marches, where most have lived in exile ever since.

In the last four decades, svirfneblin have begun moving back into the ruins to recover their homes, with aid from the folk of the Silver Marches. But developments in the past few years have drawn the attention of surface folk away from Blingdenstone. Efforts to reclaim the ruins have stalled. The gnomes’ supplies and numbers have begun to dwindle. They need help to reclaim what is rightfully theirs.

Opening:

Whether lured by the promise of glory or driven by a desire to help, you and your companions have traveled far to lend aid to the svirfneblin of Blingdenstone. After drow attacked the city to enslave the deep gnomes, the survivors lived in exile for over a century. But some have returned to their home, and they’re embroiled in a battle to rid their caverns of monstrous inhabitants. Your guide is a svirfneblin explorer named Briddick, who is slender with slate-‐gray skin, a bald head, and wide, gray eyes. He leads the way through secret tunnels and a winding labyrinth. Finally, you reach the ruined city. Work to repair damage the drow dealt continues. The gnomes wear tattered armor and bloody bandages. They carry notched and broken weapons, suggesting that the fighting has been fierce and frequent.

You don't have much time for sightseeing, however. Almost as soon as you step into the city an alarm bell rings throughout the caverns, sending the surrounding gnomes into a panic. Briddick starts to push everyone down one of the many tunnels studding the cavern, his words lost in the din and confusion as everyone scrambles around to grab weapons. The gist of his words are clear however, especially when you hear orcish battle cries from up ahead. Turning a corner, you all come across an ugly sight. Four orcish warriors are charging a barricaded manned by two gnomes fumbling with crossbows. It doesn't take a master tactician to know that without your help, the gnomish defenders will be easily overwhelmed.

Terrain:
Each square is 5 feet by 5 feet. You should know this by now.
Black squares are, of course, impassible.
Grey squares are difficult terrain. It costs twice the amount of movement to move through them.
The orange dashed lines are barricades that the gnomes put up. They count as half cover, and crossing them counts as moving into difficult terrain (so you'll need to spend extra movement to do so).

What I Need From You Guys:

Repost your finalized sheet in this thread, along with your starting position on the combat map (the ones marked 1-7). Additionally, if you're a cleric or wizard, I'll need your prepared spells for the day. Finally, anything else you want to add/do/say/whatever should be posted as well. This is just going to be a quick combat to test out the system and serve as an introduction to the module.

What is This? I Have no Idea What's Going on!

Check out this snazzy thread for an explanation. Basically, we're going to try out the new D&D edition with the free rules on the website and a module I have adapted to the rules. It'll be fun, trust me.

I've Read the Thread and I Still Have no Idea What's Going on!

Then ask questions and I'll try my best to answer them, okay? So let's finally get this thing on the road.

The rules. Because even the DM will need to look over them from time to time.

Steven shall take spot 7. He shall also weep in terror. Orcs usually carry sharp things, and Steven is not a fan of sharp things. Especially when they are being moved with haste in his general direction.

((I think it's a moot point. We've already rolled up characters and the like. USEC should probably have put that in the OP.))

((I was misled by the 1/7 at the end of the title! Curses. Oh well. ptw))

I take 3, and prepare to rush to the front of the barricade armed with an axe, with my hammer ready to be drawn.
Also I shout orders for Steven to get frost fired at them and for (insert name of Varee's person here) to come with me.

Spoiler: plan of mine so far (click to show/hide)

Samakand, we will probally need a new person shortly, so get a sheet made. Theres one at the end of the basic rules.

Here it is.
I take 2, and run forward towards the barricade and draw my bow. At 7 squares movement I actually think I'll end the round in the difficult terrain, and I'll use my action to take a shot at whatever orc is least blocked by a gnome.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I shall take 1, move forward 35 feet, and loose an arrow at the foul orcs! That being Orc 4, or whichever one I can shoot at without hitting a gnome.
