Looking for a Small Screen for a Raspberry Pi
« on: July 21, 2014, 12:07:12 pm »

So, I'm trying to find a small screen (like, 7 inches or so) for a raspberry pi. I don't need high resolution (It'll mostly be showing MAME games). I don't need a touch screen. I do need it to be under £50, and I'd prefer it to have a HDMI input.
My Google-Fu is weeak, and I need help. Help?

Dammit, I just re-read and saw you're in the UK so this won't help :p
So you have a pi B+, or an adapter?  'cause the earlier ones use composite video out right? I just got a crappy 4.3" that should work with the pi A and I think B for under $20 (awful resolution though, I was using it to align cameras), and I am ordering a nicer 5" HDMI that should work with the pi B+ - check out adafruit, but I dunno what they charge for shipping if you don't order enough to qualify for free shipping.  <<--- sorry I'm sure the shipping is abominable to UK

If you can stand to wait, you can take a chance on something from China - look at dx.com, they have a ton of stuff like http://www.dx.com/p/7-digital-lcd-screen-drive-board-hdmi-vga-2av-for-raspberry-pcduino-cubieboard-black-275810

Here you go.
Oh boy, thanks for being a dick in the Life Advice section.

Most LCD graphic panels at small sizes are hard to come by specially with HDMI as they need a controller board built. UK-wise i hit up ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=raspberry+pi&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR3.TRC2.A0.H0.Xraspberry+pi+lcd&_nkw=raspberry+pi+lcd&_sacat=0 lots of DIY electronics sell on ebay so you should have no problems finding something.

Its not really the Raspberry's problem its just you need a driver board to power the LCD panel, they don't work out of the box. They need a driver board in order to have it process video, identify the display, and convert digital and analog.
