Um. How long should pig breeding be taking?
« on: July 21, 2014, 09:53:36 am »

I embarked with a Stray Boar (Tame) and a Stray Sow (Tame) and pastured them each in 1x1 pastures right next to each other indoors (with the intention that they would be safe from any attacks on the fortress, would not have to graze, and would not pathfind); I then busied myself with other things, but Winter has just come and I haven't seen any signs of imminent piglet existence.

Am I overlooking something important?  I can get by with thread and plants, but I would nevertheless like to have a replenishable source of meat and bone (and, hopefully, goblin-bait).

Thank you for your time!

All you can do is wait. Technically you don't need to do anything to the pigs other than ensure they are not in cages and are alive.

I think the gestation period for all pregnancies is 9 months regardless of species?

There's been a bug reported on Mantis that causes some domesticated animals to take forever to breed. Cause is still unclear.

From what I recall, it's 9 months for Dwarves (or whatever your fortress race is) and 6 months for everything else.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
