I once got a goblin bone shield. Sentient butchering is half the reason I play as fire imps.

This might better be posted under the bugs tracker, but I wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing the same thing (I did a search and nothing came up).  I've noticed that when I have a strange mood that doesn't have all the required materials at first something odd happens.  Usually Urist McMoody runs around and picks up everything that I have.  If I don't have the materials s/he waits until I make them.  But at the instant they become available, they seem to transport from the producing workshop (butcher shop for bones most recently) to the moody dwarf without him having to run and go get them.  Anyone else notice this happening?

I am using 40.08 but have noticed it in .06 before this.  I am using Phoebus tileset pre-installed and therapist.  Vanilla besides the tileset.

I think my first artifact was a graphite abacus.

The bug tracker works in mysterious ways. Yes, items teleporting when they become available is a thing: http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=6970

My first artifact was a bone battle axe. Made of cat bones, decorated with cat leather, cat bones, and ecrusted with cat's eye gems! This dwarf loved cats. Until you read the name. "Asyushet, THE SLAYING OF CATS, a cat bone battle axe." Unfortunately, the same year that happened, a roc came by and killed off my dwarves.

Now normally I believe people, but this is just so far-fetched that I'm going to say pics or it didn't happen. Hopefully you still have the world.

I'd love to provide a picture, but the fortress was killed of by a Roc, and it was an older version. The only thing I butchered was a cat, I've tried a lot of times to survive with cats as my only animal. I've seen weirder artifacts from others though. Weirder than any artifact though, are the weird ideas.

Back when I didn't immediately check the decorations on artifacts, I once had two artifacts with pictures of each other on them. This is because decorations are actually generated the first time they are viewed, not when they are made.

Maybe since he loved cats he was making a snarky comment on how everyone likes to kill off the catsin this game?

This is a green glass portal...decorated with giant cave spider silk...an image of great white sharks in steel.
On the item is an image of 'Duchess' Alliedkey the dwarf and mosquitos in steel. 'Duchess' Alliedkey is surrounded by the mosquitos.

Nice job Kadol. You managed to turn two steel bars and a dyed, masterwork-woven GCS cloth into a 110,000 dwarfbuck door that will give everyone bad thoughts. Particularly the Duchess, who hates mosquitos so much that she moved to the inside of a live volcano in middle of an arid wasteland to get away from them. Really not a nice thing to do to your aunt.

At least the turkey bone war hammer (decorated with steel, weight: <1) and saguaro rib blowgun made by the other idiots serve as useful dining hall showpieces.

Well, I got a "carp fatty coffer" in my new fortress.

I made it so scales give leather, but carp scales give fatty? And whey you make a quiver it gives you a coffer for some reason.

http://oi61.tinypic.com/defrl.jpg I hate candy hammers, so much. Got this one while playing on the Community Web Fortress. Someone on 4chan actually called it before the dwarf finished making it.

For my contribution, I'd like to present a 1.36 million dollar raw adamantine mug.
