Promoted from Baroness to Dutchess

I thought you had to be promoted to a count/countess before a duke/dutchess? My Baroness just got promoted directly to a Dutchess from a baroness? I know the King/Queen arriving prevents promotion of the baron/count/duke line but I wasn't aware you could skip within the line.

I've seen it happen before that a baron / baroness can go straight to duke or duchess.  Apparently all that matters is that the fort meets the minimum requirements for a duchy.  In fact, it may be possible to go from nothing to duchy in one go, but I've never tested that.

EDIT: This confirms what we already know, more or less. Nobility is a strict meritocracy for dwarves. If your fort is rich, you become noble more or less by popular demand, no matter how common you might be.

If could also be that she was the child of a Duke that was killed.  Like the embark queens and such.
