Elf sites are beautiful! Well done.
« on: July 16, 2014, 01:47:55 pm »

I explored some of the elf sites, and the new trees really add a great deal to the ambiance. Elf sites have these huge, named, glorious trees! It's weird craning up to talk to people in trees from the ground, but entirely appropriate in this case.

Haven't had a chance to play the new version yet. Anyone have pictures of an elfsite?

Here's a tree with elves on it. Usually there are about 10 or so z-levels.

Bonus image from when I jumped down to get a picture from the ground:
Edit: Shite, that split my upper body in two.

Yes, even more beautiful to cast in obsidian forever! With the elves too! It will be like an unliving mural.

I don't understand why you need magma.

Yes, the elf-sites are beautiful, now, I dare you to come back in late spring! :P

(Seriously though, we're gonna need something for winter now that later-spring to autumn is so beautiful in-game. The improved geological features perhaps?)

So, I traveled a bit to get you a snap-shot of a Elven Retreat in autumn(I had started a fort to advance the calender a little to at the least late spring, but couldn't leave my dwarves till they had properly settled... Of course, by that time it was autumn :( ) but instead of Elves, I find a human Pikeman and a goblin lasher in the trees o_o

That said, the trip to the mountains to get here was also pretty awesome.

EDIT: After asking them, the Human is a Lieutenant of the Warlord Angot Mindfultrite of the group the Royal Pumpkins. They have taken over control over the Elven Retreat.

The Goblin Lasher, in the meantime, is an Historical Figure named Pak Pastsmiled, and he apparantly killed a cyclops, and is just on a visit.(And is also giving me the 'recruit me plz' message... huh...)

It's funny that when the humans take over, they just climb up into the treetops like it's normal. :D

What tileset is that?
It's a modified Vherid12x12 tileset. I basically made all the transparent bits a 20% opaque white so the background wouldn't be black but instead a 20% of the main colour of a given tile. This makes looking at grass a lot more sensible.

I then replaced the font.ttf with Berkshire Swash, by copying it into the art-folder and renaming it font, I wanted something legible and more fancy than a sans font.
Berkshire swash can be gotten from the google webfont directory.

Now if only descriptions could use true-type font, I'd be so happy.
(EDIT: Berkshire Swash doesn't have a male and female symbol, but that's actually something I can fix, the descriptions being forced tileset I can not)

Isn't there a tool called Text Will Be Text that fixes that? (I think it's a DFHack plugin, but could be wrong.)

I have an idea. Let's play a game where you win by being as quiet as possible.
I get it, it's one of those games where losing is fun!

Why aren't any of these elf trees on fire?
