I'm too preoccupied reading The Necronomicon, but I'll probably finish the book before this month ends.

I have it!

Apparently I didn't even need to talk to the librarian; you can just help yourself to ordered books on the shelf. Huh.
Oh well, time to read this sucker. Hopefully it gets me in enough that I read it at a good speed.

Edit: I'm only in the preface and it's already good.

Oh wow, okay. This is a Good BookTM.
I guess I'll start some sort of discussion about it? :-\ I'm not that far through yet but here goes.
Spoiler: Chapter 4 stuff (click to show/hide)

Well, I'm not exactly an expert on this 'book club' discussion stuff, but I gave it a shot.
TL;DR: "It's good", basically, but I'm not sure what else to say just yet. :P

Ooh, I'll keep an eye on this.
Already read John Dies at the End (And the sequel. :v) so I'll probably just look into grabbing a copy of The Ear, The Eye, and the Arm.
Oh, and the movie's well worth watching once you folks are done with the book.

Just a quick note: it's best to avoid using page numbers, since many people are reading using Kindles and other e-readers (which don't provide page numbers), and there are also at least 2 different editions of the book, which might have different page numbers as well. I think the best way around this is to try to approximate where in the chapter it was, ie near the beginning of chapter 6, halfway through the chapter, etc. It's a shame we can't be more precise, but Amazon has made it clear that they do not intend to ever add page numbers to Kindle. : (

Glad you're enjoying the book, though! Keep reading, everyone!

Hmm yeah, good point.
I just feel incredibly uncomfortable posting anything spoilery, even if it is in a spoiler and labelled. I guess it's because I find it so upsetting when people spoil things for me, and go to great lengths not to do the same to others. It's become habit. :P
Anyway, I'm into 'Book Two' of the book, whatever that really means.

Post to watch and join in when I have time.

While I'm not joining and therefore cannot propose any books officially, I'd like to recommend Brave Story by Miyuke Miyabe. It's surprisingly dark, given that it comes off as a (very very long) children's book, and the story telling, though it does stall a bit in the middle, switches between fun and dramatic when it needs to.

Yeah, that impressed me when I first read it. Not many books manage to pull off being hysterical and creepy, but I'd file JDaTE as one of the few that does so near-perfectly.

And I think the book two bit is a bit of a holdover from when the book wasn't really a full thing, but just a bunch of short stories on the author's website. :V

My gods, that was a good book.
Finished it on the train home earlier; I actually had to stop myself from reading to even save it for that long, ha.
It feels really nice to actually be reading a book that I enjoy. Turns out I still do read rather quickly when I have a book good enough to suck me in so completely- I was just a bit over halfway through it when I left the house this morning.

I might post some more detailed discussion-type stuff later on when I'm not feeling so tired, but I'm not really sure what.
I sure enjoyed it a lot, though. Some parts were really, truly frightening, I laughed out loud several times on the frigging train of all places, and I actually came to care about the characters. Definitely one of those books that causes a bit of an emotional slump immediately after reading it, simply because you're sad it's over, heh. :P
I'll certainly be picking up the sequel someday. Got my copy of the Ear etcetera, etcetera today, as well. Just have to clear my literary palate and I'll make a start on it... probably tomorrow, since it's dark now and I don't have a decent lamp.

I'm very pleased to hear that everyone seems to be enjoying the book. Reading should definitely be something you can enjoy, and this book is totally fun. I hope tE,tE,atA isn't a disappointment after the excitement of John Dies.

The good news is that there is a sequel, so go ahead and grab that. If you enjoy David Wong's style, you can also read loads of stuff from him for free online - he's the senior editor of cracked.com and I can highly recommend his articles as being entertaining, informative, and often extremely useful.

I've put in a request for both books at my local bookshop. Hopefully I can get hold of them within the week, and knuckle down to some serious curling up with a book.

Sigh. They've ordered them, but they'll take two to three weeks to arrive.

Also, bump! People should talk about the books.  :P

I'm squeezing in as much free time to finish the book before the end of the month. Good thing this thing isn't long.
