Dwarves not cleaning fishes
« on: July 14, 2014, 06:30:06 pm »

Hi, I have a question about fish cleaning. I have multiple fish in my stock, few tiles from it Fishery, but everytime I try to add processing fo raw fishes to the production line, it fails saying I don't have any raw fishes, and at the stockpile menu I also can't see them, but they are on the stockpile physically, I can see that myself. Also I have my dwarces set up for fish cleaning labor etc.

I find I finally understand why some people prefer ASCII. It hard to tell what is workshop and what isn't.

It almost looks as though you have your fishery north of your kitchen still but it almost looks like you have workshops blocking the entry to the room.

Besides that it could be:
-Fish have already been processed. I think this is a labour that may get automatically queued.
-Your stockpile is linked to something but not to your fishery.
-a bug. More likely if you are using 0.40.0x which I think you are but am not positive of.

Fish cleaning is auto queued indeed. They will be cleaned as you fish. Also, the fishing labor is higher priority than cleaning. They may simply be fishing and not cleaning if you have it assigned to the same dwarf.

Ive found that a dwarf will rather fish than clean fish, so i always have a fish cleaner for every fisherman, Then they will haul fish around and clean the fish inbetween. Seems to work for me.

OP specified he got a message about having no raw fish so I don't think the dwarf having both labors is the issue. Job cancellations like that seem to occur only after a dwarf has taken the job not when it is created.

Well I have multiple cleaners, I even turned on autolabor just to make sure...

And for explanation of my first post (image):

And definitely there gotta be some problem, since one of my dwarves died of thirst right next to multiple barrels with booze (ale, beer, wine)

Plus shouldn't the cleaned fish be marked like cleaned? Or are they named raw fish whole time before dissecting them?

- foremost and quite likely to becase here: The dwarfs cannot reach the material and workshop.

Notice the 2 downward arrows in the bottom half of the screenshot: Thirsty dwarfs in the workshop area. You placed the fishery in a way that blocks the door. If you place a workshop make note of the light and dark tiles, they picture where dwarfs can pass. Open the wall or tear down the fishery.

My wording sucked but that was what I originally thought it was.

Okey I did that, meanwhile two dwarves already had fun >.<... I'll try to continue, otherwise I'll just restart. Now the fish are being cleaned, because they no longer are named "raw ..." but only the name of the fish. Thanks for help!
