change in range
« on: July 14, 2014, 06:05:07 pm »

Small idea, but crossbows need to be nerfed, by making them fire a little slower.  Same damage, armor doesn't block as much, and marksdwarves ALWAYS use bolts, unless there are none in the fort. My marksdwarves always seem to be bashing even though I assign them quivers and bolts to be used in combat.

I disagree. The RoF is fine, it's just the fact that wooden bolts can penetrate adamantine breastplates with ease that makes crossbows OP. Also I hear what you're saying about the bashing, but the best way to fix that currently is to have your marksdwarves firing from specific defensive locations, with bolts stockpiled there, and no foot access to the enemy. But I agree, it is annoying as hell when they charge rather than going to pick up some more ammo. I believe Toady is already planning on implementing military stances for squads (as in DON'T CHARGE YET).

Try ordering your weaponsmiths to pump out a few copper crossbows as well, they perform much better in close combat than anything except artifact platinum or similar crossbows.
