.40.02 > Dwarves Jumping Down Wells

Playing Fortress Mode.

I've got a room over a water-filled cavern, and since it is a freezing biome, I needed a well to get fresh water. Now I have dwarves jumping into the well, and have had at least 6 deaths. There's nothing down there for them to pick up - this is the lowest level of the fortress but only the top cavern layer. They're not falling in by crowded jostling. They walk to the lower level, jump into the well, and then drown in the cavern.

Anyone else had any problem with dwarven wishing well syndrome? Should I report it to the bug tracker?

It also seems these are Jesus Dorfs. They're walking on the 'Open Space' directly above the water tiles. To the bug tracker!

They probably try to climb somewhere and fail at it halfway through.

That's actually climbing, not space-walking. At least I'm assuming they are next to a wall, and not in completely open space.
And the actual behavior: Do you have collect webs turned on in the orders? Perhaps they just want new socks...

They're probably climbing, yes.

As for webs, no - I don't even have a loom built yet. They're just wandering down there, and can't (or won't) wander back.

I was able to bring a lot of them back home by re-opening the staircase down to the cavern, thankfully, but we're losing 1 or 2 each month to 'well-wandering'.

They could also be trying to fish - every other tile with water on the map thus far is ice.
