Dwarven 'drunks'?
« on: July 12, 2014, 05:16:27 pm »

I came upon a hillock of dwarven 'drunks' in adventure mode.

I've raised some of the finest dwarves ever, legends at their chosen craft, who lived and died without ever tasting water. What on earth does a dwarf need to do to be considered a 'drunk'!??

Goblin Drunks too. My first experience with them was watching a line of them pile out of the Tavern in pursuit of a Human Drunk they were kicking the crap out of.

Dwarf Drunk is an oxymoron, this bug needs fixing.

A drunk is just a placeholder for individuals who reside at the fake taverns. They exist pretty much as adventurer fodder.

My guess is that a dwarven drunk is a dwarf that drinks far more than even a normal dwarf to the exclusion of doing everything else. Normal dwarves are kind of like functional alcoholics where as the ones labelled drunks are not.

Yeah, but for humans, it's the alcohol itself that becomes the problem. I'm uncomfortable with insinuation that alcohol is harming these dwarves. Maybe we should just call them 'idlers', like in fort mode. There's always plenty of those.

I agree, it's a placeholder. But I think, much like with humans, the replacement should be a word that also denotes one who is a burden upon their own society.

Dwarven drunks are probably drinking pure water.

If alcohol is normal for them, imagine what pure water does to their brain!

We don't have to imagine. We've seen whole forts lost to this.

I think that there were drunks in the last version as well, but they were a lot rarer. They just said "But mostly I just drink" when you asked them about their profession.

In .34 you can find human drunks in fortresses.
