Quite frankly, it was bad luck to get a terror mission and you didn't take enough men.
Your skyranger should always be full. Mo' bodies, mo' successes. Possibly use a tank early on to absorb and focus enemy fire away from your soldiers.

Restart on the same difficulty. I doubt you'd normally get a terror mission within 18 days.

Number of men is important. You need a lo of men: not only to absorb causalities without difficulty, higher ranks are only available with increasing quantities of soldiers.

This is sad but not unexpected. Nighttime Terror Missions are HARD.

The darkness wasn't really what made a difference, I'm too fabulous for that. It was just the sheer number of floaters that were shooting me, and also the fact that I abruptly lost the soldiers that were holding off 4 reapers, who then easily nommed the rest of my guys.

If you don't quit, and instead push onwards, I'll get my LP up and running again :3c

But I deleted all my pictures from that battle. :c

I tried retreating, ending the battle, and seeing what happened, but no matter how many times I do this, UFOs cease to appear until the end of the month, where my funding drops by a huge amount because of that failed mission, as well as the fact thay our only UFO was very small.

I'll definitely start over, wether it's on Veteran or not.

Maybe you could start up your LP again anyway? :3

WHY DID WE RISK SO MUCH FOR CANBERRA?! D:
That's like, the most expendable bit of Australia. Except for maybe Northern Territory. Seriously, just let the aliens have it.
...Well, I guess we did have to rescue Dsarker, if he still lives there. Other than that, though! :P

It's X-COM, baby. You have to be willing to risk it all in order to make the tiniest gains, especially in the early game.

Meh. First Terror Mission, drop in, take a look around. Pop a few aliens. Then get the heck out of there. It's not worth it usually.

Early night-time terror missions are made so much easier if you take a lot of incendiary rounds. The damage boost against reapers, large area of effect, and lighting all work well, and as floaters are pretty weak-sauce the lower damage is not that big a deal.

If there is any close quater combat involved, your meatshields should carry a 0 primed grenade.

The point of keeping the golems on fire isn't for the value of fire as a weapon. It's more to keep the golems functioning at a reasonable speed.
It was never a promise. It was a dirty lie, and you all knew that. You should all know by now that you can't trust a word I say.

In any case, we should have restarted anyway because Outer Heaven was in SOUTH Africa, not north.

Please, I don't understand the big fuss about night terror missions.

They've never given me trouble, and I've got two flares on each of the soldiers. We can do this! \o/

Don't tempt Fate!

I thought I could do it. I did it a thousand times before.

WHY THE FUCK DID YOU GUYS MAKE ME PLAY ON VETERAN WHEN I HADN'T PLAYED EXPERIENCED? ;_;

I won't post the update yet, because I need you guys' input.

Everybody is dead except Bold Bigflank. What do I do? Attempt to retreat, or stay and fight? There's at least two floaters still here. Bold has an HE autocannon.

EDIT: I just want to reiterate how pissed off I am right now, since there's an extremely good chance that I will have negative points this month simply because my 3 guys who were doing very well all got blown up by a grenade, and then everyone else died because they had nobody to help them fight the reapers which can move like 20 spaces and still attack.

Fate tempting count: 1

Next time, please don't forget to  bumrush
