I've been wanting to mod the game in so many different ways it's ridiculous.

What you could do is have a hidden building like Dwarven Toughness that is required to build King units, and can't be built normally(the GM has to edit it in), and might give a Defensive bonus as well(or a resource bonus/penalty that means you gain the same resources as you normally would from the city, but change the terrain to a hill or mountain so that they get a defense bonus that can't be countered by siege weapons).

Hidden building that gives passive buffs to the capital (and allows you to build king/leader units) is easy. Having it change the terrain wouldn't really be possible.
Personally, if we want a King, I think it should be a specific unit with the ability to give some sort of inspire buff to allied units.
That could be done pretty easily.

This was the year that the Picts fell from their height as the most powerful faction in the isles. Their hegemony was lost with the lives of the brave knights of High Tor that fell to the onslaught of Danes. It was lost with the subjugation of the people of Mott Fergusa who became bondsmen to a new class of Thanes and Eorls. The king Causantin Mac Fergusa II raced north, his southern campaign broken with the loss of Bridlington and the near abandonment of Grimsby, desperate please from his kinsfolk taking him back to the Highlands.

In their place, in a sinister pact with the invaders, the Mercians were regaining strength by the day. The might Wessex were able to repel and crush the Old Heathens, the heads of Ivar the Boneless and Halfdan Ragnarsson placed on spikes outside the unbroken gates of Nothingham. The Welsh continued to wage war against the raiders spreading out of the captured Aberaeron while their homeland grew richer.

And on the emerald isle, Cinead and Cathal start preparing the town of Narsis as a full way point for their legions of knights to stake their claim in the broken northernlands.

You really messed up in not sending your knights north a few turns ago Kash (especially since if you did then the invasion would have been trivial to defeat, instead of practically ruining your economy and army for the next 20-30 turns). In fact, to be honest it isn't entirely too late to send them up. You might manage to retake one (or even both) of those cities, as the danes can't build any troops without any money (and even if they keep burning land down they will have a hard time getting enough to actually build troops). It would take a while, and requires that no one attacks you in force, but it has a real chance of success, which is more then I can say for your plans of a continued southern attack against mercia at this point.
E: If they do start to get money from mercia permanently things may be very different of course.

When Danes raze tiles/cities, they gain money proportional to what was on that tile(or just 5 money for a tile, 15 per Pop point for a city).
Did we decide that this was a good rule for the Danes? 5 gold per tile razed/15 gold per initial pop of a city conquered? If so, I'll implement it from last turn's razing onwards.

I don't think anyone had any problems with it, so yes it was generally agreed that it was a good idea.
