Just because I can, army count:

Me - 31 soldiers, half mid, half high, some max tier, unit experience primarily 0.
Irish - 12 soldiers, 6 ships, mostly high tier, at least half experienced units
Wessex - 69 soldiers, many low tier, few high, some max tier, at least half experienced units
Mercia - not commenting, as many units are in range of one of the cities
Pictland - 39 soldiers, 6 ships, mostly high or max tier, many experienced units
Danes - Not gonna bother

Well, I'd like to think I can hold off the Danes successfully, and if I can end up being the last man standing whilst I'm at it, then all the better :P

By the way Pictland, why are you continuing your southern campaign?  Considering your military, the most will probably spawn near your shores in order to balance the difficulty in fending them off.

Plus, only way to win now is to beat the danes.

Same reason he razed my cities;

Show of hands, because of this statement, who might funnel every scrap of money they have to the Danes, if you are on the verge of collapse?

Kashyyk, in this game, is a dick

Was a bit of one in the previous game as well.

*Raises hand*

Seriously though. It might just be because I haven't actually checked how much money the Danes have, but this new Victory Condition feels a bit boring on it's own. Hence why I'd like to continue the war between Players, just with some Danes to deal with at the same time.

Spoiler: 866 AD (click to show/hide)

The Irish rush to protect Irada, the prize gem of their emerald isle, while on the mainland the Heathen Army enter Grimsby. The last towns of Northumbria are conquered or razed by the Picts and Welsh, while the wetlands of East Anglia are on fire and black sails are seen off the south coast.

How I read that:

Well, Mercia is gonna be having trouble dealing with the Danes as it is, and I don't really have to do anything to fight them with my land army, so I might as well screw them over even more.

Just because you don't have to really concern yourself with the Danes, doesn't mean everyone else can.  Most people will be dragging through this conflict on the skin of their teeth, and in my opinion, making it by on the skin of your teeth, yet still succeeding, is where the fun is.  Danes will provide that just fine for most people, and if you're not experiencing that, then maybe you need more Danes battering at your shore.

Example: In the prior game, after I got over the 'defeatist' mentality after I was invaded from the south and my only forces cracked open, holding on became a little fun, as that nation was staying alive by the skin of its teeth, and when it started to inch its way out, I kept having more and more fun.  Granted, all of that was nuked when you pulled a Hitler, betraying me without even the courtesy of downgrading our international relations from 'Wartime Ally' to 'Nonaggression'.

You're right there, but as it is I need to find a challenge someplace else.

And I would've gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for that meddling GM! :P

Don't think he can find it anywhere besides the Danes.  Other armies don't have the numbers (Ireland, Mercia), don't have the unit experience (Me), or don't have the level of unit advancement (Wessex) in order to keep up.  Besides that, they are all to preoccupied with Danes.

Just a warning: I'm going to be away visiting family until Saturday. I might have a chance to update during that period... but I wouldn't count on it.
