I dont think it possible to crank out that many mines, there too many step to it and it take too long to be beneficial.

smith-eng guild take quite a lot of iron...
Iron isn't the limiting factor really, with an iron income of 2 you can produce the infrastructure needed for a cavern mine every 3 turns.
The limiting factors early on are labor (since you need 13 labor per cavern mine, which is pretty significant early on) and inspiration (which can take up to ten turns with a single library).  Later on it's population, wood and time (since there is a significant lead time).

One per 3 turns is a bit optimistic since you did have enemies to deal with but if you spend the whole game only on infrastructure and found a foreign supplier of wood having +15 iron per turn by turn 50 is fairly reasonable.

Also, while focusing on infrastructure is pretty clearly suboptimal in the short (and even medium term) in the long term it is needed to win, and having twice as much iron income because you built up your infrastructure will win you the game when you produce twice as many troops as he can, even if he initially has more.

The Picts handily deal with the meagre raiding party while their King is marching far south on Mercia. The Irish and Anglosaxons move to intercept the slightly larger forces with no great concern.

"Is this it!" scoffed High King Conchobar.

Little did he know that this was only the beginning...

Dane Invasion Rules: The Danes will spawn new units at the edge of the map each year that they still have cash. Other than axemen and longboats, they can only spawn units that they already have on the board. They spawn after each turn is resolved. They can be bought off: Danes will not attack a player's cities the following year if they are given 50 gold.

Hmmm... At this rate they may indeed end up as a real threat if they manage to survive a while.

Does it cost the entirety of movement to land forces?

No. But it does take an entire turn to enter a city that's at least at population 3.

City actions are completed before army movement, correct?

By the way Pictland, why are you continuing your southern campaign?  Considering your military, the most will probably spawn near your shores in order to balance the difficulty in fending them off.

Plus, only way to win now is to beat the danes.
