@Wessex: I've already detailed what I was going to do a couple turns ago:

At the current time, I have no effective places to place another city.  The lands west of Winchester looked like a good place to build one, while, at the same time, provide a nice land connection between my territories.

I don't want Winchester itself, which holding onto is your only victory condition.  Why you care about the land I'm taking is a bit beyond me when you already outnumber the other guy your fighting.
