DF 4.02 Slow
« on: July 10, 2014, 08:29:26 pm »

Is it just me or did the FPS suddenly drop, I'm currently running 30 FPS (30).

Not just you- I'm running a 3x3 embark tile fort, and it's experiencing a slow FPS drop every time I unpause. Good to know it isn't my computer.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

Yeah I've never hit 30 FPS before, even in 6x6, the lowest I got is 60

I'm now experiencing the stutter lag that someone mentioned in .01, it's not that it's slow it's that it starts and stops.

4x4 is pretty slow for me with the whole stutter thing but a 2x2 is somewhat faster it seems.

Running a 3x3 embark which is currently at 21 dwarves. FPS in the 2012 version would have been several hundred at this stage but in 40.02 it's at 30.

The trees dropping thousands of leaves all over the map is raising my suspicion.

I'm getting some of this too. I think it's the world generating. Think of the loading calendar running in the background all the time.

History length x world size equates to a great deal of FPS drop. The longer the history and the bigger the world the slower it will run.

The world's populations and settlements develop very rapidly in this version so a world with a couple hundred years history is very mature and well settled at that point. Small or medium worlds with a only a couple hundred years history should run pretty well where  as a large world with a thousand years history will not.

Yeah, this is almost certainly a problem with the calender, which is being optimized for the next version. I'll probably wait for that before starting another fort.

ok, what the fuck. I have only 7 dwarves, a small world with only a 50 year history, and no running water, and I'm getting 30 fps.

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

I'm running a 200 year old medium world, a small 2 floor fortress (like maybe 30x30 tiles on each floor?) on a 3x3 embark with 10 dwarves, and I'm only getting 6-8fps at one year in.  (seeing my first goblin siege of all of four goblins)  In comparison, the same setup on DF2012 was getting me ~150fps under similar conditions.

So I have to say... Wat?

Did you get a mood of any description? My first mood dropped my framerate from regular unoptimized-bad 48ish to 3-2 fps, and other people have experienced this as well.

None of my dwarves are moody whatsoever sofar as I've noticed.  I've uploaded my save to DFFD for anyone who wants to have a look.  (Granted, the fort is on lockdown until I get my traps together, but I was experiencing the same frames per second before the siege began.)  http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=8865

Another possible reason for slow FPS is underground baby caravans. My FPS was about 30, and I had 46 random babies in the "Others" screen. They eventually moved on and my FPS shot up like a rocket.
