Tip of the day: When using an upgraded workshop or laboratory, please remind your GM that it is upgraded.
Adwarf's Black ForgeWith an actually competent team, research on battlefield railgun weaponry goes exceptionally well. Railguns require particularly bulky ammo, due to the need to replace rails, but are both accurate and powerful. The team has the theoretical work done on railguns of nearly any size, and are ready to begin designing railguns of whatever size you want, from a disposable 'pen' hold-out weapon up to battleship sized turrets. One of the undergrads suggests that no mountain would dare stand against you if you start employing railgun turrets the size of a battleship. (-30CR taken for rental lab due to construction)
The motorcycle team has nothing to show for their efforts, other than an unusually unstable bike.
Unable to double-up in the workshop with the motorcycle team, the weapon manufacturing takes place on the airfield. The newly built deliverance weapons are noticeably less accurate and jam significantly more often than expected.
New Tech: Conventional Railguns, Exceptional
+2 Bad Quality Deliverance Weapons
Furtuka's Timmy Grant and the Kaiju FightersThe commandos gain experience in Rock. They are skilled enough to entertain elementary schoolers. They are starting to appreciate this posting.
The sound system is installed in the bus. One of the undergrads dropped a speaker after opening the box, but it still works.
Plans are drafted for converting the claw into guitars. They think they could get three from one claw.
The study of the claw results in a particularly dry and boring report. You're not sure how they made the claw from a kaiju so boring.
Nobody really notices your marketing campaign.
You buy a bus. Your pilot crashes it several times, but somehow only causes superficial damage. He learns a lot about crashing a bus safely. (-10CR)
New Tech: Preliminary Kaiju Claw Study
New design Kaiju Claw Guitars (3 engineer months, 1/3 of a kaiju claw)
Bus upgraded.
New pilot trait: Safe crashing [ground]
Kaiju claw destroyed
Wwolin's F.A.F.N.I.R.The study of the liver sample goes very well. It seems to be capable of absorbing and breaking down any blood-born poisons in a matter of seconds. The researchers get ideas for an artificial organ capable of doing something similar in humans, but warn that it may be prohibitively expensive with current technology.
Those studying the combat data get a few ideas, possibly increasing troop effectiveness.
A preliminary study of the muscle is completed.
Research Completed: Preliminary Behavioral Analysis (F.A.F.N.I.R.)
Research Completed: Through Kaiju Liver Sample Study
Research Completed: Preliminary Kaiju Muscle Sample Study
+1 Set of good quality anti-bullet armor
+0.5 sets of motorcycles
Hawk123's HalberdKaiju skin is unnaturally tough. It seems to be the source of the kaiju's passive ECM, but the dead sample is largely lacking ECM properties.
Project VERT continues. The mech is now fairly stable, even over debris-strewn terrain, but it's top speed is barely faster than a human walk. It should be able to easily fire light infantry weapons while moving. They have many improvements that could be made, or they could try to get a combat-usable design ready with another month.
The group designing a larger workshop gets several designs, some of which would fall apart under their own weight, none of which would survive a mech accidentally ramming a wall. Useless.
Research Completed: Preliminary Skin Study
Project VERT specs: Mech with 2x human height, 3MPH, stable over damaged terrain, easily fires light infantry weaponry while moving
Sarrak's HERALDHerald's accountant has been fired and replaced. ((25 credits refunded. Normally dead troops still get paid, but I think I failed to do that for anybody else last turn.))
Your researchers design a chainsword. It is decently balanced, but needs serious strength to use in combat.
Your engineers design titanium short swords with obsidian edges. They probably won't be good for more than one slash on each edge.
The basic survival training produces another well-trained platoon, without losing an entire platoon this time (6CR to return to full strength). Your other platoon spends two months going through horrible training, but will come out of it able to survive unsupplied nearly anywhere on Earth with no attrition.
404: generic pilot training unavailable at this time.
Survival II platoon unavailable for actions until the end of next turn.
New Design: Chainsword (2CR, 2 engineer months each)
New Design: Titanium-obsidian short swords (12.5CR, 12.5 engineer months for 50) ((I'm not tracking 0.5s. They cost 13 of each if you're making 50, or 25 for a 100 pack.))
Execute/Dumbo.exe's NERVThe scientists study the skin, and suggest no better ways of destroying it than with large explosions. They suggest that live skin should have different properties than dead skin.
The heart sample seems to be remarkably similar to terrestrial hearts, after accounting for alien genetics and its improved strength.
The undergrad assigned to the tracking project begins consulting various psychics. His results are that there was only one kaiju, and it was a modifed Earth species.
The powered exoskeleton project is proceeding slowly. They have settled on a hydraulic movement system for the legs.
The powerplant project is a failure. The engineers assigned will be in the hospital for the foreseeable future to recover from heavy radiation poisoning, at doubled pay. Your standard workshop needs about 175CR to be properly decontaminated.
Research Completed: Preliminary Kaiju Skin Study
Research Completed: Preliminary Kaiju Skin Study
Critical failure during design phase.
IronyOwl's SINCOMYour team comparing combat data analysis and neural data suggest a few tactics for your troops, which might help to bring them down faster.
SINCOM engineers design a small drone to scoop up kaiju samples. They only have a range of a few miles, and can't really cut samples away, but can work together to get larger pieces.
The troops get basic training in operating the sample retrieval drones.
Research Completed: Preliminary Behavioral Analysis (SINCOM)
New Design: Sample Retrieval Drone (3 engineer months, 2 credits)
Warning! Kaiju detected. This one looks like a six legged turtle. Its current course will take it to the Chinese coast in slightly over an hour.
Anti-kaiju organizations may ask for military assistance getting to the kaiju attack, if they wish. (Having your own airfield will speed up transportation. Having your own air transport is even faster.) Responding is not required.

200 CR: Small Workshop - Allows 25 engineers to work on small projects, up to the size of a small motorcycle.
350 CR: Large Workshop - Allows 25 engineers to work on projects as large as a medium-sized plane.
Workshops may initially be upgraded up to four times, for a dice bonus. Costs are 100, 200, 400, and 800 extra (1000 for a fully upgraded small workshop). This may be paid later, but work cannot be done inside a building during construction.
250 CR + 10/month: General Laboratory - Allows 25 scientists to work on any one project.
+100 CR: Specialized Laboratory - Provides a bonus to work in one field, with a severe penalty to unrelated fields.
Laboratories may initially be upgraded up to three times, for a dice bonus. Costs are 100, 200, and 400 extra. This may be paid later, but work cannot be done inside a building during construction.
100 CR: Hospital Ward - Allows up to 10 injured personnel to remain safely on-base. Doubles healing speed, and allows those with minor injures to continue light work.
50 CR: Living Quarters - Provides on-base living, recreation, and dining space for 100 personnel. Removes the morale penalty for commutes, required for bases in inhospitable locations.
100 CR: Small Airfield - Space for small aircraft to launch from or land on. Comes with a control tower.
+50 CR: Large Airfield - Allows larger aircraft to use the airfield.
+50 CR: Hangars - Provides maintenance and secure storage space for 3 fighter-sized aircraft or 1 bomber-sized aircraft. May be taken multiple times.
Free: General support personnel - Janitors, secretaries, and the like. Their budgets are included in the hiring costs for other employees.
Scientists
0~1/mo: Undergrad Students - They'll work for food and paperwork, and are better than empty space.
10~5/mo: General scientists - They're decent at most mundane fields, but don't leave them studying fusion unattended.
25~5/mo: Low-grade specialists - They are heavily specialized, and you might not get exactly the specialty you were hoping for.
50~10/mo: Specialists - These have a more broad focus, and research just as fast as lower grade specialists in their specialties.
150~25/mo: Superior Scientists - They are generally good at everything that's not too overly exotic.
500~100/mo: XCOM-tier scientists - Need a small team who can study a dimensional gate, reverse-engineer its access method, and design a manned inter-dimensional vehicle, all within two months?
Engineers
0~1/mo: Undergrad Students - They'll work for food and paperwork, and are better than empty space.
10~5/mo: General engineers - They're decent at most mundane tasks. Precision work is better done by specialists.
25~5/mo: Low-grade specialists - They are heavily specialized, and you might not get exactly the specialty you were hoping for.
50~10/mo: Specialists - These have a more broad focus, and build just as well as lower grade specialists in their specialties.
150~25/mo: Superior engineers - Their creations are generally superior.
500~100/mo: XCOM-tier engineers - Probably overkill.
Soldiers
20~10/mo: General infantry platoon(50)
50~25/mo: Special forces platoon(50)
If you want to hire better trained soldiers, spend more money for random results.
Pilots
4~1/mo: General Pilot. Able to fly or drive anything conventional with minimal practice.
If you want to hire better trained pilots, spend more money for random results.
My vehicles will remain behind.
All infantry will take military transports to the battle. They will take potshots at long range, and will move in when it looks like it's nearly dead to try to lay a partial claim on the body.
Turn 4, September 2014. Kaiju interrupt.
