Search for saltwater in site finder

It would be nice if you were able to specify in site finder whether you wanted a site to have salt water or not. This would save a lot of looking through potential embarks for coastal/non-coastal locations.

Dude, when you hit "embark" it makes a little window pop up that tells you "This area contains saltwater. It may be difficult to survive here." if it has saltwater. This is already in the game.

Also coasts are quite visible on the map: they are big blue bits of water that say "ocean" next to not bits of water...  ::)

Less obvious, however, admittedly: if you look closely on the EMBARK tile map (left most panel), there is blue blue water, and then there is like a yellowish water icon. Which it still calls "ocean" but these yellow tiles are, in fact, the actual, honest-to-god, exact location of the coast, where the water will hit the land. If that makes it easier to be precise.

EDIT: by site finder, I guess maybe you mean the "find desirable location" option. But still. There's little reason to use that if a coast is what you want. Just scroll on the map, takes 2 minutes.

Dwarf fortress in 50 words: You start with seven alcoholic, manic-depressive dwarves. You build a fortress in the wilderness where EVERYTHING tries to kill you, including your own dwarves. Usually, your chief imports are immigrants, beer, and optimism. Your chief exports are misery, limestone violins, forest fires, elf tallow soap, and carved kitten bone.

While we're on the topic of the site finder, the rivers entry could get expanded upon.
Instead of "Rivers: N/A, No, Yes" i would rather see "Rivers: N/A, Any, Brook, Stream, Minor, River, Major".

Yes, I could also, instead of specifying temperature, just look at the north, south, or middle areas of the map as applicable. Also, instead of specifying the evil level, I could just look for purple tiles on the map. Also, instead of specifying a river, I could just scroll around until I see a site with a river on it. Wait, why do we have site finder again?

Add one more option for "Stream or larger" (i.e., can't walk across it).

That would be a fair option as well.

The "This embark contains salt water" warning is not adequate information.  Using the "always confirm" init option and the f1, f2, set to scroll through the biomes, I managed to determine that the warning was being triggered by four tiles at one edge of my 6x6 embark site.

Salt water can be on all of it, most of it, or a tiny sliver I can probably ignore.  These all trigger the warning.  I'm not saying the warning doesn't have a role, but adding "salt water" near the bottom of the biome description (that list with "aquifer," "clay," "shallow metals" and so forth) so it shows up when you scroll through f1, f2, and the rest would provide the detail to make more informed decisions.

To add to the initial post, the option might have the most utility if it allowed you to choose specific salinity or mark it irrelevant.

To add to the rivers suggestion, perhaps instead of a whole list of options simply the ability to set max size and min size? This allows you to look for a specific size of river, specifically small ones, specifically large ones, or something in the middle. This would provide the  most choice with the smallest number of inputs.
