"Ignore conversation" option for Adventurer mode
« on: July 09, 2014, 07:42:00 pm »

Sometimes it's hard to walk around quickly because there are so many people talking at once that it more than fills up the screen and you have to press Enter every few steps or more.

I'd like to be able to ignore non-hostile chatter, especially from companions.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

data/init/d_init.txt

"This controls "more" in adventure mode.  If MORE is set to NO, all announcements will be skipped.  DISPLAY_LENGTH controls how many lines are printed before it gives you the "more" prompt.

[MORE:YES]
[DISPLAY_LENGTH:23]"

You can set it to MORE:NO to solve your problem.

I suggest, for reality and usability sake, that your character would only understand those conversations he choose to pay attention and those directed to him.

In real life you usually can't understand a conversation that you aren't part of unless you pay attention to it. You hear and know that there is a conversation, but only undertand it if you are paying attention.

In game, you would hear screams and the like, and would know that people would be talking to each other, but the messages only would be displayed if you choose to pay attention.
