Last Chance: A Story Driven Suggestion Game
« on: July 09, 2014, 05:37:22 pm »

*Beep* *Beep *Beep*

Rolling over you press your face into the pillow, and try to ignore the droning sound filling the room, you'd come home late last night and just wanted to sleep some more. Its not like you had anything to do anyway, the factory you worked at for the past three years was shut down three months back to be bulldozed and be used to expand the military base that it sat in the shadow of. Just as your eyes begin to close your alarm goes off again.

*Beep* *Beep *Beep* *Beep* *Beep*

Reaching out you clumsily push the off button before sitting up, even with the alarm off there was no silence to be had as vehicles made their way about down below, and the morning shift was on their way to work. You take one look around your apartment, a decrepit place with the paint peeling off, holes big and small punched through the plaster, and covered in a thin layer of dirt and dust that you just could never seem to get rid of. Well this is the slums after all, no matter how much the government propaganda tried to speak of the booming prosperity of the planet those who lived in the slums knew better.

And the sad truth is over half of the planet's population lived in the vast city slums forced to work for barely enough money to survive on while a small handful enjoyed the supposed prosperity all by themselves. Standing up you head into the bathroom, the face you see in the mirror is one plagued by exhaustion that looked like ...

You spend a few minutes washing your face before heading back out to the bedroom to throw on you clothes, putting on some plain work clothes you also reach up on top of the dresser and grab your wallet. A quick look inside shows you the last twenty three credits you have to your name, barely enough for a meal and surely not enough for the rent which was due in  two weeks. Sighing you grab the last thing you need before you can head out, moving aside a small pile of shirts in the top drawer you pull out your trusty M12 Halicon.

Popping the cylinder out you see five bullets, closing it back you head out into the hallway, and turn to lock the door, you could never be to safe in these parts. You take a glance at the worn nameplate that displays your name ...

This is going to be a story based suggestion game, no fancy numbers and minimal rolling to stretch my writing muscles and try to write a good tale of a down on their luck slummer on a dystopian world. The setting of it is one I've used several times that being the Bright Void which is a sci-fi universe rife with greed, bloodshed, and war. Keep in mind this is going to be a more serious story so please keep the silly suggestions to a minimum. I'll be setting (and actually following) a weekly update schedule.

Any who time to get started, all you guys need to post is a name, gender, and basic description for our unfortunate protagonist. You also need to suggest their general personality which will effect how they handle things somewhat.

Our name is Zerik Algolreik.

Our gender is male, although due to our abnormally fast metabolism, we are nearly skeletal regardless of how much we eat. This results in no real discernible gender, although "Twig" would be a good gender description. We need to eat more often.

We prefer to avoid strife, although when threatened we tend to be brutal and sudden with our actions, castrating someone with our teeth is not something we are above doing and is also something we have done before. Not a pleasant incident. We prefer to go unnoticed whenever possible, we are soft spoken normally and only voice our opinion when we feel like it will actually do something to change the outcome of the situation. We can be withdrawn and closed off at times but we tend to be very loyal should someone go out of their way to befriend us. We would much rather be living in a forest then a slum, the open sky and fresh air would do wonders for our emotions, not to mention the animals we could eat and the plants and the smells and just nature in general. We dislike that we appear skeletal and would like to be able to afford more food more often, that would be nice..

((I feel like I'm missing a good chunk of stuff but I can't think of a good thing to tie in.))

Zerik Algolreik, a strange name for a strange person that's for sure, you can't even begin to count the amount of times people have remarked on just how damned unhealthily skinny you look. To be honest it annoys you about as much as it puts others off, shrugging you turn away from the door, check that your M12 is hidden from sight, and start off down the stairs passing a view much like the one of your bedroom. All of the slums were rundown, hellholes that's for sure, but there wasn't much a person could do to change that ... well not much that was legal of course though sometimes you had to do what you had to do. Or at least that is what Mark, and Flint have been telling you ever since you lost your job at the factory...

A few days back Mark, and Flint approached you saying they both had some jobs for you that could net you some easy money in time to pay your rent, but if you had to guess neither of them are going to be strictly legal. Mark you know has ties with some guys called the Runners, from what you've been told they have a lot of work in the smuggling and drug running businesses, but they've managed to stay mostly out of the eye of the UM because they didn't bother their income that much. And Flint, well Flint let something slip a few months back when you were both getting drunk at a bar, apparently he works with a gang called the Reapers who are one of the most wanted crime organizations on the planet because they've taken to attacking UM patrols and convoys to make a living.

Neither of them are likely to give you jobs that don't break a few laws, but you sure as hell need the money they both promised would come from helping either of them out. Mark told you to meet him at a bar called Brook's Hollow down in Section C Lowtown, he said he'd wait until one before assuming you weren't gonna take the job and leaving, if you come though he's going to give you the job details and you'll already be in. Flint on the other hand said to meet up at around six outside the checkpoint between Section C Lowtown and Section C Spaceport, you're not quite sure what kind of job he has in mind going up there, but it doesn't really matter much. Either way you need the money, all you have to do is be there on time ...

Tch, ain't no love in the drug business.
Go meet Flint, recalling what you know about him as you make your way to the meeting spot.

You conclude that Mark likely wants to involve you in some drug running business, and from what you know of it that's not the most enjoyable career to follow if you want even a single person you can trust. Sighing you silently mutter an apology to Mark wherever he might be as you turn, and head for the nearest rail station, from there it should take about six to seven hours of jumping from rail station to rail station and making your way on foot when they can't take you where you need to go. As you ride the railways you start thinking on what you know about Flint, he's a serious troublemaker that's for sure, you can't even begin to count the number of bar fights and outright brawls you've seen the man get into let alone the one's you've heard about.

He's a tough bastard that's for sure, and about as dedicated as they come when he sets his mind on doing something though his short temper sometimes gets in the way of even that. All in all if you ignore the guy's temper he's dependable, a good choice for someone to watch your back in a fight that's for sure though the other guys sure as hell wouldn't agree once he starts laying into them. By the time you arrive near the checkpoint the sun is already setting below the skyline, and the automated streetlights are lit turning what would've been pitch black conditions into dimly lit shadowed roads and dark back alleys at best. You find Flint leaning against an abandoned storefront smoking about half a block from the checkpoint, standing around six foot the only way you could really describe him was intimidating with his scarred face, stocky build, and the cocky grin that never seemed to leave his lips.

The second he sees you Flint tosses the cigarette off to the side, and nods his head towards the open doorway leading into the store, you watch him give a quick look around before following you into the building within. Shutting the door behind you guys Flint leads you down a hall with a few boarded up windows, and into the room at the end of the hall where much to your surprise you find about five other people sitting around on chairs and sofas in a room lit dimly by a set of rechargeable lanterns hung in the corners. Looking around you find all of the others staring at you as you make your way to a chair a little ways from anyone else before taking a seat, Flint on the other hand shuts the door and turns to the wall directly beside it where you see the blueprint of some warehouse.

Clearing his throat Flint speaks up,

"Some of you might be wandering about the newbie that just arrived, don't worry he's got my seal of approval so just focus on the job we're gonna be doing today, and everything should go fine. This time the Boss has given us a bit of a larger job, this warehouse is currently being used to store some of the UM's older model exosuits, and the Boss wants us to get in there and take them for the Reapers. Going off the information Jack got us the place has a moderate security detail, about eight UM soldiers armed with Regitors, a dozen or more technicians and drivers armed with simple defense weapons, and possibly a single pilot for the exosuits. The pilot is likely to cause the most trouble so once we've got this underway under no circumstances is anyone from the UM forces to get near the trucks that have the exosuits, we can't risk a fight an exosuit in the middle of Spaceport district.

Now on to the roles, Jack your information has been useful as always, I want you to do some cover work from the tops of one of the nearby hab factories or watch towers and to act as a spotter for us before we break in. Dorcas, Yulith, and Al you three will be come at the warehouse from the main entrance and eliminate the perimeter guard while me, Vick, and the new guy come in from the back to cut off any escape they might try to pull off when shit starts going down. All in all we have maybe thirty minutes from the first shot before we need to be gone, any longer and we risk having a UM convoy come down on our heads, and I'm sure as hell not dying today of all days. Any questions?"

"Would it be a good idea to sneak in as quietly as possible and get as close to the trucks as possible without being noticed?"

"In most circumstances it would be, however a UM convoy is coming to escort the exosuits on to their next stop, and we can't be slowed down by going with a stealthy approach or they'll be on us before we can even reach the trucks. Anything else?"
