Having not played the new version yet (will get started this weekend), I was quite convinced a whole bunch of people here were suffering from severe heat strokes when this stuff started :P

Donate, yo!
This. If you haven't thrown some money in lately, now's the time to do it. They'll need food fuel to plow through bugfixing. It is for the best.

Thanks, Tarn and Zach!

Long live the cause!

Also thank you Tarn and Zach. You know, over the past four or so years it has become a routine for me to automatically check the dev feed every single day, and I doubt I have missed a single day that I have had internet. This game has, in my mind, become something of a slowly being realized dream for me. Before we moved on to video games, my friends and I would always talk about our own fantasy realms and play Adventurer when we were all younger (albeit, with a lot less massacre and beating people with their own arms). Being able to play something that simulates that is simply a dream come true. In my mind, every update is a gem, for it brings us just that much closer to version 1.0.. even if that is still really REALLY far off. Either way, thanks guys for bringing this nerd's dream of playing the ultimate fantasy world simulator's final version just that much closer!

It is terrifying.

It was inevitable.

I have an idea. Let's play a game where you win by being as quiet as possible.
I get it, it's one of those games where losing is fun!

Please, let's not make this the immediate response every time someone writes thanks on the forums.  thvaz and smirk already covered your sentiment quite well.  I think Toady One and Threetoe might appreciate some written thanks, in addition to the donations.  If it were me, I would be happy to hear the voices of the community (and I thought a "thank you" thread was a nice counter-balance to a couple of very unproductive threads).

I want people to donate, as well.  Not only have I been a donor for years but I've also been a strong advocate of Dwarf Fortress by word-of-mouth.  The community around Dwarf Fortress is important.  All the contributions of time and effort (such as the bug tracker, the wiki) are a large benefit to Bay 12 Games and everyone who plays.

I add my sincerest thanks, and also my greatest respect for you accomplishments.
Dwarf Fortress, even in its unfinished form, is a stunning accomplishment.
Thank you to both Toady and ThreeToe.  Y'all are legends.

I also wan't to say a huge thank you for doing this.

For me reading the devlog, checking out what other Urists experience in their fortressess and adventures has become a dayly routine. I'm 37 years old, played computer games since I bought my first C64 back in the 80s and DF is without competition the best game I've ever played.
So, thanks again.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: This game might be Tarn's dream, but we share the same dream. The only thing I would do differently, is make it sci-fi so you can travel through space, too.

I've wanted a game like this, to the same scope and even with the same visuals since I first played ZZT back in '91 (the game that also got me started with programming and modding). It was roughly the same idea as DF's adventure mode, but on a much more limited scale. I always wanted it to be bigger; to simulate an entire world/universe of possibilities. Dwarf Fortress meets that demand and more. And it's not even scratching the surface of it's own greatness yet.

Yes, thank you two for all the work over the years - and doing so for free, or rather, off of the good-will of your fans alone.

(Now just stop taking so long to update, nyuk nyuk nyuk.)
