After Jernak takes a brief drink of his healing potion [+9] the group heads off in persuit of the goblins. Their tracks aren't hard to follow yet at some point the orcs appear to have dropped back. Seven minutes of running only to find the Hobgoblin Cleric, nude save for a loincloth, on his knees in prayer. None of you understand the language and yet the other surviving goblin is nowhere to be found. The Cleric's morningstar is noticeably absent as are all of his possessions save his Holy Symbol.

"Ahoy, me hearty! Yield and speak, wretch."

Put a rapier to the Cleric's neck, grin rakishly.

The Hobgoblin Cleric finishes his prayer with a brief two words [or is it one long word?] and then replies to your demands in surprisingly skilled common "Keep your ahoy to yourself. But I will yield. I am unarmed and I have no chance at survival."

"I would tell ye to make yer time, but I have a wee bit of a question in me mind: what reason do ye have for stayin' here to be caught? Did your pal rob ye and run off, boyo?"

Lora sheaths her rapier, her mouth twisting wryly, "'sides, I'm no the sort to go cuttin' perfectly good throats without cause. Stand up and talk, eh?"

You notice that the Hobgoblin seems to be schooling his emotions when you mention him being robbed. "My ally was given my items as a gift. They will be given back to the tribe instead of cannabalized by you or your orc allies. I am simply here to stall you all and buy him time to escape." The Hobgoblin does, indeed, stand however. His arms never leave his side though he is still grasping his holy symbol.

"So, what you think we're gonna kill ye in cold blood? Howsabout you tell us...

...what exactly are we after, again? Sommat about the Captain, right?"

"You are allies with the orcs. You are no friend of ours. If it is the Grey Reaper you are looking for we were sent to find him as well. He has stolen Fluffy's cherished artifact. A small plate. If you agree to return it to us, I will assist you in any way possible."

"'Grey Reaper'? 'Fluffy'? A small plate? Ye lost me there, bucko. There be a word for what I'm needin', con-somthin', has to do with writing and books?"

"Contract. That's the word you're looking for. Anyways... wait a second... The captain's brother mentioned Fluffy as well. I think I have an idea where the plate could be."

When the group came across the Hobgoblin, Vicnan pulled out his crossbow. It was sitting idly in his hands, but now he brings it up to wave it in the direction of the cleric.
"Are you seriously considering his offer? You're just giving them time to get away. Do you want to explain how Grey got killed by a bunch of goblins?"
Pointing the weapon at the cleric, Vicnan speaks to him. "Keep your hands where I can see them. If I see you casting a spell, I will fire. Then, you will probably die. Depends on how forgiving your god feels. You want to tell us why Fluffy is attacking the monastery?"

"Do you think I fear death? I stayed here fully aware that my death approached. As for the the Grey Reaper being dead? If the Grey Reaper was dead we wouldn't be here right now. Fluffy is seeking to find an artifact housed within the walls. With it, we will destroy the orcs and kobolds and claim this island as our own."

"Fluffy is the most powerful member of our tribe."

Well... That explained it...
