Following the tracks of the horde of goblins that split to fight Captain Grey wasn't particularly difficult. Even those without any skills at tracking were easily able to keep a decent jog for quite some time while following the tracks. Eventually the group began passing bodies. A hobgoblin here. A couple of goblins there. The head of the hobgoblin a little bit farther which looked like someone had used it as a cup. A tear of fabric from the Captain's Clothes. A giant pile of gold.

Wait...

Yes, after about an hour of tracking into the dense jungle the group came upon a clearing with several Goblinoid skeletons as well as numerous smaller creatures resembling magpies and squirrels.

The pile was easily large enough for each of the party to hide within it without being spotted. However, the numerous weapons and armors might make such a plunge uncomfortable. Potions and scrolls and books and other various obviously magical equipment sat in the open. Obviously a trap. Especially considering there was a six foot tall skull upon the pile that had obviously been decaying a while. Though it had some odd appendages at the top of the skull.

However... It couldn't hurt to search for an owner. The group took several moments to search for any sign of an owner. No foot prints. No sleeping area. After a second search and a third it became obvious that no one living had been here in quite some time.

"...clearly this is a perfectly ordinary hill of treasure from which we are free to take as we like."

Search for traps. Take 20.

"As you like? No. But perhaps a trade can be made." A slow quiet voice comes from the pile. It sounds like it is coming from a dead throat yet it echoes pleasantly through the clearing.

Each of your attentions are drawn to the large skull upon the pile. Getting a better look at it you can see that it has a single eye in the center and that the appendages are actually eye stalks. However, there are no eyes to speak of. Instead a small pin-prick of red light stands in for eyeball.

"Oh nothing in particular. I love oddities. Show me something. I'll make a counter-offer. It gets so boring here. Everything is either mindless or tries to steal from me. A poor decision for them. I want something new most of all."

Vicnan digs out the coin from his pocket, and flips it.
"Hmm. Something new, huh? Would this do?"

Kyle says looking at his companions.

"I really don't like the look of that thing, since the halfling's talking to the damned thing he can't point his finger at it, say a few words and zap it..."
Jernak then brandishes a dart
"Perhaps if things escalate"

"If things escalate," the skull started levatating and all the eyes focused on Jernak "I think it would end poorly for you. But you are welcome to try. As for your coin... Hm... Oh yes. I haven't seen something quite like that in some time. Hm... How about a Wand of Cure Light Wounds? I have plenty."

"Ah hell. Well just my luck, it seems to be smart. The question is if we're going to kill it and take its, amount of coins. Or do whatever you guys are doing, talking to whatever this uncanny thing is."
