Queen on Embark?
« on: July 08, 2014, 07:11:59 pm »

In my first v40.01 game I embarked using the only dwarven civilization was out there, and it turns out my carpenter\mason is the ruler of the civilization. Newly created from the looks of it.

So I investigated with legends and it looks like this civilization was destroyed by titans and dragons within the first 3 years of world history. Now 50 years later I revived it. Has this happened to anyone before? I still receive migrants in small waves, and I got a dwarf caravan. No diplomat came with it though.

Survivors of the apocalypse I'd say. Barely enough left alive to get caravans running and the migrants are survivors of the titans returning home to the new queen.

I've never heard of it. It's odd that you're getting migrants, though, since I'm fairly certain that if the fort belongs to a dead civ, it would only get the first two waves in DF2012.
Out of curiosity, is your fortress considered the Mountainhomes?

No it's an outpost, and I have only gotten two waves so far and it's the first year.

This is the sort of thing you ought to write an LP story about.

I'm so glad my masons have chosen to memorialize the really important events.

A third migrant wave arrived, nobody at all has families. So it looks like this fort will live on.

Our way of life was destroyed, annihilated, nearly forgotten.

  Nearly.

Now we shall rise again, and wreak our retribution on all those who wronged us! We shall show them what it means to be a dwarf, STRIKE THE EARTH!

Someone else running v40.01 had one of their miners spontaneously become King a few weeks after embark. May be related.

Fortunately, that king liked picks.

Unfortunately the save is corrupted some how and the game crashes when I try to load it.

For me, has happened with every 40.01 embark with a sole dead dwarven civ.  Instant king/queen, shortly after embark.

Then you must build a 100km (high) wall.

I'm hoping one of my dwarves is selected as the new monarch in my 40.01 game, as its a civ with no territory according to the map.

May still be a mt home or hillock somewhere still.

In my game I had the caravan arrive, but the game said "No liason, how odd". A bit later an immigrant woodcutter spontaneously became King/Queen (in one place it calls her the King, in another place the Queen).

Came here to see if this had happened to anyone else. I just got through winter when I noticed that someone with a fancy sprite was hanging out in my dining area. One of my original embarkers, a miner, spontaneously became queen. The civilization's "Important People" screen shows a General and three barons in addition to my newly minted royal, but I haven't gotten a liaison.

Welp, time to divert the miners away from the aqueduct and towards a giant bedroom before she goes bonkers.

Note: Her majesty is apparently not so high-and-mighty that she can't dig, so that's nice.
