A hostile potter migrant showed up to hang around on the map edge.  I made a fish dissector from the same wave into my militia commander and sent her to kill him, but she ended up running away and climbing up a tree, followed by a failed climb check sending her into the river.
Eventually I decided to send out another squad of five dwarves to do  the job properly, and the potter got punched to death with the fish dissector only getting a broken finger (and a bad thought for a "major injury").

After brutally rampaging through a worldgen fortress that had been claimed by goblins after its fall, I discovered the true cause of the fortresses demise.

They had found the circus, and I was greeted by clowns.

there is nothing funnier than watching a goblin army get assaulted by hundreds of war chickens.

Any new discovery, sufficiently weaponize, is indistinguishable from !!FUN!!

The thing that killed my first dwarf was a segmentation fault, trying to block an attack by an angry groundhog before he had saved his progress for the first time.

Sounds like the general Fortress Mode consensus is that Toady's been reading too many old OOTS strips...

They -are- dwarves' natural enemy... (along with carp, alligators, elves, goblins, zombie elephants, cats, cats, cats, cats, cats...)

A were-lizard of some kind. It came twice and killed like 5 people.

This creatures are actually dangerous now, they take longer to transform back.

Indeed, I got a werewarthog which killed two.

But they never would have given up either. And compared to sitting around in this prison for the rest of my life? Losing is fun.

My newly reclaimed genned fort was ambushed by a single baron, probably remaining from the fortress' fall. Rather than try to cease hostilities, I sent my seven dwarves over to beat the crap out of him, ensuring that he won't be causing any problems in the future. Then I cooked him and shipped him off with the elves.

I think my first death was due to either falling out of a tree climbed out of fear or being brutalized by a terrified yak.

Edit: Oops. Just realized this was Dwarf Mode.
Logs killed my woodcutter.
Curse you, treeeees!
Then, in another fortress, one of my dogs followed a camel around for three seasons attacking it, and eventually made it bleed to death.

Apparently my woodcutter fell from a high tree, exploded, and turned into an "unrecognizable mess". Within the same month, two (out of 6 remaining) more dwarves fell from trees and broke their limbs.
