Roll 8 - Gravity Well

((Ya need to add the larger stick to my inventory.))

Grab 2 acid containers, 2 different chemical mixes, anddrop short stick.

You grab two cans of sulfuric acid, as well as [6] a can of powdered lead dioxide, and [2] 200 ml of hydrochloric acid.

Go explore another level of the ship.

Unsure of where to go, Harry rolls a dice to decide whether or not to go through the elevator or try and open the hatch.

[1-Hatch!] You decide to get creative, using mops to gain leverage while pushing yourself off the walls. [5-1] While resourceful, this turns out to be unnecessary, as the hatch slides from even the lightest push. The metal plate begins to rotate, moving off to the side and opening the way to a level quite identical to the one you were in before, but without your personal cryo-rooms. Instead, there are countless rooms with dormant crew in them, still lined up in their pods.

There is a control panel next to the hatch, reading: Open all hatches to Cargo?

New Miniquest: Resourceful

((well i guess we are not using any fuel as we are in a stable orbit))
Vex set the ship to lower the orbit so we can extract some H2 for propellent from the gas giant. Then he start draging the body to hydroponic/diposal and dump it.

[4+3/9 = ~5] Strange how the ship doesn't seem to have any apparatus for actually collecting the hydrogen, despite being largely dependent on fuel from it.
The computer calculates the fuel costs for the trip, and to descend into the gas giant's upper atmosphere would take 3,500 m/s or so of deltaV.
However... and the computer warns you this... escaping would require an ungodly 24,000 m/s of deltaV. That's half your supply, AFTER you've collected the fuel.

There has to be another way.

...

[6] You drag the skeleton through the hall. It falls apart as you cross the door threshold, rendering it into a pile of dust and bones in between he rooms.

((To clarify, in two months I'll have alcohol but until then I'm SOL? Or is the wine almost done? Cause turn 11 won't take long...))

[6-2+1/7 = ~4] In all your angst, you've managed to come across a supply room next to the kitchen! There may be hope!

You search through boxes and find several bottles of wine, packaged in boxes of 12. It might be a valuable commodity, depending on how long it's been out here for...

Dammit, Katelyn, she thought to herself as she gingerly touched the skin around the cut. You know not to step on possibly structurally unsound objects!

She picked up her radio and set it to the ship-wide net.

"This is K. Materos. I've found a minor leak in the water pipes around the ring. It's nothing to prioritize, but one of the grates fell and I got myself cut in stagnant water. Any of you have medical ability?"

Wipe myself off, climb out of the crawlspace, and head up to the main deck. Look for someone who can perform medical treatment and get myself patched up and my wound cleaned. I'll come back to the leak later.

[1] You get up, and find that you haven't fallen far. Standing waist-deep in water, the floor level comes up to neck level. However, there isn't really a place to climb it from, since the exposed edges of the grates will most likely scratch you again and the walls are too smooth to climb. There is a pipe you could potentially rest your foot on, but it seems fairly small and fragile. A rupture could spell disaster.

Drink enough wine to get me to my natural state, take a few more bottles and stash them somewhere private. ((Or as private as I can manage.))

Does this crawlspace extend to the right or to the left? If so, attempt to find some sort of item that I could use to help me climb up and out of this hole. If not, set down my toolkit and use it as a stand for me to ascend and climb out. I can come back for it later.

Go to the garden.

((This is a minor action, and so you can do more on this turn. What do you want to do at the garden?))

((You... replied as I was editing))

((No scoop? How are we suppose to refill then....

((There are some key systems the characters haven't discovered yet. I don't think ramming your ship deep into the gravity well of a huge gas giant is the solution.))

Quote
also i cant mess with the sensor right?))

((You can, it's just that you're not the only one on the ship

Let me clarify, to change the settings, all your character has to do is go into the sensor booths and set it. However, you should probably check with the others.

Also,  um, let me go back and create a set of tasks that makes sense.))

Current (Updated) Planetary System Map:

The sensor modules currently have the following tasks available:
-Take visual readings of the planet's moons (0/3) +0
-Take atmospheric readings of the planet's moons (0/3) +0
-Scan Omicron Illiad 676 a (0/15) (required for travel to target) +0
-Scan Omicron Illiad 676 b (0/12) (required for travel to target) +0
-Scan Omicron Illiad 676 c (0/9) (required for travel to target) +0
-Scan Omicron Illiad 676 d (0/6) (required for travel to target) +0
-Proximity Scanners(-/-) (detects nearby objects in the same gravity well) +0
-Long-Range Scanners (-/-) (detects objects in the outer system) +0

For scanning tasks with no sensor point limited, each point gives you a bonus to detecting important objects per month. If neglected, you might pass by important things such as ships or wormholes.

((So, you detect wormholes like you do other things such as ships. To travel to a planet, you must first scan it, in order to have the proper astronomical data relevant to its orbit.))

Vex go back to the sensor board again in an attempt to try work it.
{Curent Available Tasks:
-Take visual readings of the planet's moons (0/3) +1
-Take atmospheric readings of the planet's moons (0/6) +2
-Scan Omicron Illiad 676 a (0/15) +5
-Scan Omicron Illiad 676 b (0/12) +4
-Scan Omicron Illiad 676 c (0/9) +3
-Scan Omicron Illiad 676 d (0/6) +2
-Scan Omicron Illiad 676 e (3/3)
-Construct Navigational Map of System (0/3) +3}
R-"Ok guys the sensor and nav comp should be operating now.does anyrhing else need to be done? Elsw i say we go back to bed for two three month so the ship can get full read in the system."

((As the only gut in bridge i say i get to set sensor :P ))

((I put the updated map up...

So basically you now have choices between situational awareness, being able to travel to the other planets, or being able to safely deploy craft on one of the moons here. This is the setup I will be using for the rest of the game until additional sensor options are unlocked.))

You know what though... having the deltaV tables is too darn complicated for an RtD. I think a revision is in order.

How about, for the future, each planet will have a 'base' cost to travel to (and a travel time), and when you navigate you will roll to see if you can shave off travel time/decrease deltaV costs. The Navigator skill will govern these rolls.

Is everyone okay with this?

The travel table is now as follows:

Destinations: Travel DeltaV Cost in m/s (+amount needed to land) [+Travel time (months)]
-Ares I: 4,000 (+2,300) [5m]
-Ares II: 2,700 (+1,700) [5m]
-Ares III: 1,200 (+1,700) [7m]
-Ares IV: n/a
-Low Ares Orbit: 27,500 [4m] <Can save 24,000 m/s by aerobraking>

((It depends on where you want to go. I think you actually have enough months to get all the scanning done right away. 45 points total--yeah it doesn't matter right now. It will soon though! :D

All you have to do is decide how many points you want to allocate toward scanning, and of which sort. Depending on how long you travel, you might want to spend a lot on scanning and only a few each month on actual tasks.))
